Internet radio recommendation

Hello,

I've just purchased a Tangent Quattro from a company called Purebuy ( www.purebuy.co.uk ) which is selling these for GBP99 rather than the more usual GBP180 - so far it works really well, and delivers great sound from all the UK favourites like Radio 4 (well in my case at least !).

I've got no link to Purebuy, but thought I'd post this as it appears a good deal based on what I saw in my few weeks of looking. I had my radio delivered to a UK address, but think they also ship to CH.

This may sounds like a silly question, but I've never had one, so bear with me...

Can you get all internet radio stations or are there some that are blocked because of copyright contents via the ISP (in the same way that BBC Iplayer is blocked in Switzerland)?

I have a PICO Revo IR. It is a shower radio that connects to my WIFI. I get everything from around the world and listen to Radio 1 in the shower every day. Later in the day I turn on some local Rio station to grab some Bossa beats and finish off with some West Coast dinner jazz.

do you know if you can get radio 5 live and sport extra? I really miss the long sundays lazing in the sun with a beer listening to Test cricket...

The answer is yes, if your station is listed here on the Reciva website you will be able to get it on your Reciva based IR.

but radio 5 wont broadcast things they are not aloud to outside the UK. so last night you could listen to the champions league but on sunday you couldnt listen to the premiership because R5 just does some clips of old stuff and a repeating message that says "due to rights restrictions this broadcast is not available in your area".

which i know off by heart now because i hear it so much the miserable gets.

So I assume that you'd only get what's normally available on IPlayer?... damn, my hopes are dashed

Listen to it all day long. If it's a bit too progressive, then Classic Rock on:

Great....!

I'm not sure walter - if you mean iPlayer for video that won't play anything out here then its better than that yes, but it still can only broadcast what its allowed to, so for example the chat shows, fighting talk, wake up to money and all the other radio5 talk shows are ok. Any sports where they have a global license are fine, but for me i know the premiership is out and (I think) the championship as well. not so sure about cricket..

Yes you can get R5 and R5 live over the internet, you just have to know the link to the direct stream, internet radios probably wont let you select that but over your pc or wince device (which I'm selling btw ) you'll be able to get it

On wince Core player will let you select the streams

Yeah no one's saying you can't get it BB, its during stream content they are checking. unless your device does some IP masking or you dial in over VPN its going to his the same stumbling block i would have thought.

ok, so I'm not a techy, so I'll ask the dumb question... how?

just type the stream link into core player, media player etc and off you go, I'll dig the links out when I get home, or do a search on google for the latest live links, the beeb does change them / delete them etc to stop people but as ever there is a website with the latest live ones on

With regards to outside rights broadcasting, Radio Five Live has two radio streams (WMA and Real). Whenever you get the recorded message about it not being available outside of the UK, try the Real audio stream since that seems to be unlocked.

We use an iPOD touch with some small speakers as an internet radio.

The Orange Live Radio App has Radio 5 Live and hundreds of other UK stations.

I can recommend the Logitech Squeezebox, CHF 219 in Swisscom shops.
