Internet with lycamobile

Hi,

I have installed the sim card in my one plus one and I get the "R" on the icon. There's no way to get 3G 4G connections. Does somebody know what the R means? I enabled internet to see how it works but I don't get any connection... No data transfer.

How can I enable the internet connection on lyca?

Thanks

R stands for Roaming, although I don't know why your lycamobile is in roaming in Switzerland (is it tied to a Swiss number, right?)

The OPO disables data while roaming, to avoid paying too much: if you want, you can enable it in the same screen as the carrier/2G/3G choice

I don't know the situation in Zurich, but you might need to force connection to a specific network

e.g. you might be connected to a German network cell, or to a Swiss operator not belonging to those used by lycamobile ("national roaming")

Yes, of course. I have a lyca mobile sim card, that I was using in a phone without internet and it worked perfectly. I changed the simcard with one from coop mobile and it worked perfectly... LTE/3G/H.... I saw all of these letters in the time with it, but with the lyca sim card I get just the damn R.

Could it be because I have just 3CHF in this card? I just wanted to test the quality of internet because it is supposed to use the swisscom network, that is the best one in the country.

Any ideas?

PS: I have just one option related with the network regarding what type of technology is preferred and I have LTE but I tried with 3G and 2G and it's the same thing.

Shit, I have noticed that I posted this in the wrong forum... Sorry

I have the very same thing with my dual sim phone.

I would go to settings, disable and then enable the lyca sim again. That works evrytime.

With your single sim card, not sure if you have similar option. Try airplane mode maybe.

The R stands for Roaming. It is considered a roaming because the SIM Card is actually came from NL/UK (or else) , but it provisioned with a Swiss number. The SIM Card does not contain your phone number. It contain the ICCID which is later paired by the operator with an IMSI (do google it ). Thats why you can change a sim card but keep the same phone number...

If you want to use the internet on Lycamobile, enable data roaming, then add new APN on the mobile setting of the sim card. APN Info:

APN Name: Lyca Internet

APN Address: data.lycamobile.ch

Username: lmch

Password: plus

Now, that internet is activated, buy lyca data package.

It start from CHF 1.25 for 120 Mb. More details here .

Without the data package, the data connection cost CHF 0.10 / Mb.

Hope that helps ...

You have registered the SIM ? Rather than just got it and stuck it in the handset?

You sent / showed a copy of ID etc?

I have never seen an R on my display when roaming.

Thanks. Now I understand.

I bought the sim card online in lycamobile.ch but it could come from UK/NL... like you explain.

I have an one plus one with oxygen OS and I cannot find any option to ignore the roaming. I only tried the APM configuration that you posted and it doesn't do anything. I doesn't work.

Hey guys. I found an Icon in the apps list: Sim services. I opened and I checked: lycamobile > Modusauswahl > Manuell > Swiss (Roaming* was checked with an asterisc).

I restarted the phone and is still the R there.

It works!

I have to select the option Swiss* and not the Roaming. And I put the APN as you said.

The only problem is that I always have the R, so I cannot see what connection I have. But it works.

See you.

I faced this issue myself. I had a valid SIM, registered as needed (i.e. gave my passport info), and had credit. I could connect to make phone calls, but had no data despite having bought a data package.

It turned out you need to setup an APN on your mobile phone. I never had to do this before, and have traveled and worked in over 20 countries in just the last few years. Anyway, here was the site I found that gave the setup details the clearest as of Jan 2018:
