Hi. I'm going to a job interview and maybe I need some advice about the dress code...
Basically it is a technical position in a Swiss company. This position will not directly deal with external customers.
When the HR assistant called me to fix the date of interview I asked her about the dress code. Her answer was quite vague. She said: you can wear a shirt. Or if you want you can also wear a costume.
Then should I wear a costume? I am planning to go there with a shirt but not costume...
That was her word. I assume that she means suit.
If in doubt go in a suit I think.
I think usually its better to be over dressed than under dressed.
Are you a bloke? Either go in dark trousers and a shirt or, if it's not really warm, wear a suit (no tie) unless you have a jacket or coat which really looks business smart.
Otherwise, superman is better than batman. Or spiderman, which is the most geeky.
Always wear a suit to an interview. If you get there and it's super-casual, you can always take your jacket and tie off.
Suit -dark - blue/grey/black
Shirt - white or light blue
Tie - nothing too garish
Shoes - black
Socks - black

That's what I planned. Dark trousers with a shirt. No coat at all as it will be quite warm.
But then I am hesitating between checked shirt or a shirt with more uniform color (which might look more professional?).
To me, for a technical job, ties say one of two things. Either "I'm a consultant and don't really know what I'm talking about, but I'll ask more technical people and create you a slide deck" or "I"m an academic who has no idea how to dress smart and this is one of my first ever interviews and first ever jobs".
Don't wear a tie :-)

"Kostüm" in German can mean suit so she means you can either turn up in a shirt and trousers or a suit. I guess she translated it directly to costume.
I still think you should turn up as Mr Darcy or Ronald McDonald for the laughs...
By the way I will be interviewed by one of the managers (who is a young lady). Does this change anything on the dress code expectation from my side? More formal or more casual?

No, but make sure you patronise her with every answer you give and end with "but you wouldn't understand that honey!". Slap her arse as you leave. Try not to wash your face or hair for a few days before the interview.
