Iphone 4 from Orange (contract)

Hello All

I am curious to know the complete pros and cons of signing up for a contract with orange for an Iphone.I am new to the country and would appreciate it if someone could explain the various rate plans for an Iphone with Orange.

Thanks in advance

AS

Orange have standard subscription plan called Orange Me - I think its the same for both models of the iPhone, but I've attached the version for the 16 GB phone:

(happy to clarify the terms)

Also, you may find this useful:

Orange iPhone contracts: that pesky termination fee

PS. There are also variations of these plans - these are just the most common ones. For example I took 30 mins, unlimited sms and 1GB for 50 CHF. Best thing to do is go in store and they'll come up with a personalised plan for you.

Thanks a bunch.

what do the 90 minutes mean? Free calls to other Orange subscribers?

Once you chosen a plan, you cannot downgrade it. If you want to change, the only thing you can do is go for a higher rental plan.

And the cancellation charges are huge. But if you are leaving the country and have had the contract for more than 6 months and have proof that you have deregistered from your Canton, maybe you will be allowed to leave for free. I am not very sure about this though. Friends of mine who left the country did not pay anything. But it was some months ago.

Re: cancellation charges - its true. I have written confirmation from Orange that this is the case

90 mins is 90 mins of call time to any network.

Never ever subscribe to an Orange connection for Iphone. The connectivity is pathetic and their service is poor to say the least. I would look at swisscom as well --they seems to be a bit better

Has anybody found out what the cancellation charges actually are if you try and leave whilst a contract is running? Someone at work said they'd been told CHF 600 - could that be right?

Plus, they don't exactly make it obvious how to cancel when your contract runs out - there doesn't seem to be an option on the website, for example. I guess you have to put pen to paper (the horror...!)

My wife has an iPhone with Orange and has never had any connectivity problems.

Basically turn up at the Orange shop with a bit of paper.

Fees

If you cancel your contract before its expiry date, you will incur an early termination fee.

If you wish to cancel before the expiry date, a fee will be charged according to the length of the extension (CHF 300.— for 12 months and CHF 500.— for 24 months / iPhone customers: CHF 600.- for 12 months and CHF 800.- for 24 months).

Deadline: your cancellation request must reach us at least 30 days before the date your contract is due to end.

Thanks everyone for your replies. What are the normal call charges in and around Swiss? Is there something like free calls after 9PM etc?

Sunrise has free unlimited calls inside of their network with any "Flat ..." abo.

This. I made the same mistake last year when getting the iPhone 3GS, although I was lucky having signed up for only a year. The 3G connection is pathetic (maxed at only 3.6 Mbps - if it works ), and the customer service is horrible . Swisscom is overpriced (but so is mobile phone usage in general over here), but at least it's stable.

Disagree there I have Iphone 4 on Orange and I even picked it up the other day until about Colmar.

I have a large subscription too which allows me to call or SmS anyone in the world for free.

I have an iPhone4 with Orange. I haven't had any issues, but I've only been connected for less than 2 weeks. I've received international calls on it better than my house phone! lol. I have the 90 min plan, with unlimited SMS and 1GB.

Iphone with Orange for 2years and 2 months (now on iPhone4) - no problems with connectivity, even up mountains and on cablecars! It is also great to use up your minutes on your calls back home to England as long as within your monthly allowance they are free. Never had a problem with customer service either - always managed to get an english speaker on the two occaisions I needed to call

Likewise no problems with Orange. They allow VOIP applications like Viber over 3G which I believe Swisscom block.

I had an Iphone 3gs and now an iPhone 4, all with Orange and have never had any problems with connectivity or cust service. 2 years and stikk happy.

I have the new Orange me with 90mins, 90texts and 1gb for approx 60 chf per month

Hi,

Adding to all above, you can maybe do the following:

Bye your own private Iphone, unlocked and no string attached.

Then go to Orange, get OrangeMe only sim plan and you will be given the following:

1. only 3 months subscription - after that you can break it any time you want

2. 10chf discount every month for your private phone.

The big benefit is for people who may leave the country sooner than the 12/24 months plans.
