The one I want (32GB) is CHF 1049 in Digitec, or I could wait a few more weeks and pick one up at the Apple store in London for CHF 822 (£629 with 10% VAT back using Global Screw).
I agree actually, the 5C felt better and looked like something new whereas the 5S just looked like a 5. I prefer the design ethic used in the 5C and how the colour of the case carries over to the screen colour makes it visually much more interesting.
Unfortunately it only comes with 32gb max, and no slow motion. Because I have a lot of data and because I quite fancy filming some things in slow motion, I have to rule out the 5C but if it had those features I would choose it over the 5S for sure.
I paid about 980 for mine (32gb, space grey) - but I don't have to wait :-)
In a couple of weeks, they might have them in stock again - right now, there's now way you'd be able to get one from a brick and mortar Apple Store in England. Believe me, I tried.
I personally think the 5C just looks cheap. I played with it extensively and it's no better than any other plastic Samsung. I've always liked the looks of the 5 - so that was a no-brainer for me. Considering that the 5C doesn't have any advantages over the 5, I decided to go with the one that has a drastically faster camera.
The 5S's camera has one major advantage: speed. I'm not talking optical speed (as in better sensor etc.) but raw speed - autofocus, image storage etc. I mainly use my cell camera for taking pictures of dawiz junior - and he's darn fast. It's virtually impossible to get sharp pictures of him with the Lumia 920, which is very slow in this respect. So for my purposes, the iPhone 5S's is better suited. In terms of image quality, I'd say the 920 is still way ahead from what I saw in various reviews.
It will be interesting what the Apple store here will actually sell them for. At the moment, without the release of the 5C/S here you can only buy the 4S. So a comparison:
Apple store UK: 508 CHF (xe rate)
Apple store CH: 449 CHF
UK with globalblue*: 449 CHF
* Assuming you break the law and don't declare it when entering Switzerland.
If I brought it in sealed and sparkly new. However I intend to pop my PAYG T-mob sim in (after careful cutting to get it down to nano size) and use it for the week or so whilst I'm there.
You'd have a pretty tough time convincing them that you'd had it for more than six months before bringing it in though wouldn't you? ( assuming you got caught of course which I think is extremely unlikely.)
I'm also having some issues with the screen size, regularly switching from 4.5" and almost 6" screens (Note 3 at work). But it's alright for busy days. Just not great for sofa surfing.
