iPhone 7 released today

Its the same price as the 6S and yet you get double the memory and the usual iterative improvements. Its clearly not going to appeal to everyone, so thank goodness for choice, but if we are talking flagship phones, the Galaxy Note 7 is CHF 829 and the the iPhone 7 plus is CHF 899 so not a huge difference.

the Galaxy is cheaper and even has a built-in heating system

Hi,

to be honest nowadays it is difficult to justify more than 550 CHF for an excellent smartphone and that price is falling ever year. Over 800 CHF for a phone seems totally ridiculous from any manufacturer. I would think twice before buying a computer at that price.

When Jobs was in charge at least they had some interesting announcements. Now I just think they hold them because the press expects them too. Experience has made me get rid of all the Apple devices I owned but I would still listen to the presentations as they were interesting to hear in real time. Now they are so boring and lack content I don't care if don't find out the news a few days later.

I assume this will increase sales of the iphone 6s series as they are cheaper than they were and are compatible with the headphones people use.

Have fun

Martin

Underwhelmed. The camera with the 'optical zoom' on the 6 plus does look nice but I will wait till the 7S next year.

Also the screen on the the 7 being less than 1080 and the 6+ not being 2k? Well behind the times. I'm sure some of you will come and bleat that it's impossible to tell the difference but I have a 2k display on my phone and the wife has a 1080 display and I can certainly tell the difference.

Iphone 4S here (after using a iPhone 1 for almost 4 years): I'm on my third battery, my third rear glass, and my seconf home button but still going strong.

I'll end up with one in the next few months. I have a 5S at the moment, but the 3 year refresh cycle at the employer stipulates that it's time for a new one.

I wouldn't buy it for the purpose of replacing the 5S, as the 5S works just fine, but it seems a decent set of incremental upgrades, and I definitely prefer iOS to Android (though there are occasionally Android features that stand out and make me wish for them).

I guess I'll probably get the 7+ for the camera, but I'll want to pick it up and see if it feels like too much for me or not. I'm a big guy, but if I don't feel like I'm comfortable holding it in one hand, then I'll stick with the 7.

Iphone 4s here as well, would like another for my Swedish sim. Hand-me-down from my kid original everything

Looked at the 5s vs SE should I need to submit at some point - for my purposes the 5s is just about more than I need

While there may be a visible difference, with anything above 300PPI you're well into the law of diminishing returns IMO. Also bear in mind that your 2k phone's GPU needs to do around 4 times the work than the GPU in your wife's phone, which depending on SoC process and implementation, is likely to suck your battery faster than your wife's, and/or possibly giving you a less fluid interface as well

I've long considered resolutions of over 300PPI as more of a sales metric than anything that's of any real benefit to the user.

My Nexus versus her phone is far more fluid and the battery lasts longer

If the price drops on used iphone 5's or 6's, I might upgrade from my iphone 3

Nexus 6P in my case. iPhone 6 Plus for the missus and my older kid. I'm way more comfortable travelling without a charger than they are and the 6 plus runs comfortably for 1 day.

You do stuff like replace the default browser (there's none anyway), the default email-app, do funky stuff with call-rerouting, even switch out the telephone app to another one.

Basically, completely f-up your mobile so that no-one else can use it.

There are also some apps for Android like advanced wifi-scanners that will never appear in the AppStore.

Nothing I have ever needed.

Also, I don't want Google to monetize my meta-data and data.

The iPhone 7 is the fulfillment of a the promise the original iPhone 6 was.

At least, that's how I see it.

Having some of my pen test tools handy is the only reason I've considered android.

However, as I'm likely to do things like arp poison the Starbucks access point every time some bimbo starts loudly FaceTiming her entire brood on speaker, I figure I'm better off not giving myself that temptation... Or at least doing so from a disposable device!

i must admit that it is a courageous move to release a double bluetooth headset in white. Don't believe what Apple says. You will still look like this:

I don't care about the look. But I hate having things in my ear.

We had a trimphone

I remember when my aunt and uncle got one of those and they very proudly showed it off to anyone who visited at the time.

Showing of your phone us not a new thing although the opportunities were much more limited back then.

Galaxy Note 7 was a big disappointment after the last recall and now they won't let you board airplanes with one in certain airlines.

When my iPhone 4s died, I did not buy 6s but went for a Galaxy Note 4 due to its screen -and 50% of original price. Sofar I am very happy -it has memory card slot (128gb is more than enough for me to carry my music and some movies around), replacable battery (this is nice but also necessary since battery literally drains within hours)

I did not want to spend 600+ on an iphone; and previous android flagships sell at 50% of their original while differences to current phones are minimal

None of the current flagships offer much attraction for me to spend so much on a phone
