I’ve set up a SIP account at sipcall.ch, and it appears to work fine. I’m currently using Bria on my iPhone to log into the SIP account. I can receive calls on this number and it rings in Bria. So far, so good.
I would like to be able to receive calls via a U.S. number, and had previously used ipkall.com for this purpose. The last time I used IPKall for this was more than a year ago though, so my original IPKall number expired. I registered a new number and configured it to forward calls to my SIPCall.ch account. Unfortunately, it does not appear to work.
I specified the following details when setting up my account at IPKall:
Account type: SIP
SIP Phone Number: 4132xxxxxxx (my sipcall.ch number)
SIP Proxy: free4.voipgateway.org
At first, it just rang interminably when I called the U.S. IPKall number. Now (a few hours later), it gives me a busy signal. In the xDR browser on my.sipcall.ch, I see no record of incoming calls from IPKall.
Is anyone using IPKall to forward calls to SIPCall.ch? I would be glad to figure out how to make it work.
Thanks in advance.
Ah the whole IPKall thing is a pain. GVoice changed so that someone could seize your Seattle number.....
Have you tried Talkatone? I use GrooVe on Android for my GVoice but I hear this works in a similar manner....
That setup used to work just fine when I first tried it about a year ago (but gave up because my IPKall numb kept expiring and I switched to GV).
I'm not sure, but doesn't your forwarding number need to be entered as
[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) ??
I actually have a Google Voice number as well, but I am not sure I have figured out how it’s supposed to work.
If you have the Google Voice app for iOS running, is it supposed to ring in the app when you receive a call to your GV number? This does not appear to work for me. The call goes straight to voice mail, and frustratingly, there appears to be no way to disable voice mail on Google Voice.
Because of this, I had been operating under the assumption that I still needed a U.S. number to forward the GV calls to. Is this correct?
This is what I intended to do with IPKall:
Google Voice → IPKall → SIPCall → Bria on iOS
There was a time when it seemed Google would incorporate the capabilities of Gizmo into the Google Voice app. However, I haven’t found a way to receive (or make) calls without having a U.S. phone number.
If there’s a better way, I’d love to know about it.
Also, Sean, could you provide more information about your comment? How can someone seize your number without having access to it?
I also have a problem with SIPCall.
Got 2 numbers, one for myself in CH and one for a friend in the US.
My number works (Android, using 3CX software on my HTC Sensation.)
My friend has the exact same phone and installed 3CX as well but it wont work. Funny thing is my external IP address (provided by SIPcall) is free4., his is free3.....
has anybody been able to set it up between CH and the US?
