Is 2026 the year of economic armageddon?

I find it interesting that while Obama has pretty much ignored most (if not all) of DJTs assaults in the past, Obama is now publicly speaking out - effectively critiquing DJT’s peace deal with iran in public.

Because of, may be, the upcoming midterms? GOP appearing to break from DJT’s control? Does he have something to be concerned about, regarding his deal in 2015/2016?

Which deal are you referring to?

I was referring to JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal - Wikipedia)

Corrected the year in my earlier post.

He will blame Vance (and Obama and Biden) and try to run for the third term or restart a war to stay in power.

That he will blame someone else, while taking any and all credit, that’s a given. He has shown no shame taking possession of medal, prizes that others have won fairly and through ‘work’.

I’m glad to see the way Meloni struck back at him. I can imagine Ivanka not being happy at DJT that Meloni had to strfie back like that. It ‘reflects’ on Ivanka, me thinks.

As for staying in power, of course he will try and push hard. I’m not certain that the US constitution allows for a president to continue without elections, even if the US at war.

It will go to SCOTUS and he will also run into resistance at all levels, even within his GOP. So, eventually, he will give up that effort. He may fall back to running as a VP and when his party wins, the winner will swap places with DJT as VP and DJT becomes president again.

He is an old man so possibly his health will decline to a level that makes it impossible to continue.

Unless like Brezhnev they have him stuffed and display him on the balcony from time to time

Speaking of Brezhnev “not many people know this”
Leonid Brezhnev’s great-grandson Anton Milaev captured in Ukraine.
Aged 45. Adopted grandson of Galina Brezhneva. Prior to the war liked in Ukraine, then “went into politics.”
Supposedly he went to war in Sept.-Oct. 2025 as sapper/engineer, and stopped contacting his family in November.
A few months later, his family found out he was taken prisoner in Kherson region.

Pump prices in France had already gone down yesterday, was under €2/litre yesterday, apparently. Still higher than pre-March though as you say.

It will take months for actually to be significantly more oil on the market.

And possibly even longer for LNG.

I think it was yesterday or so that I saw an article which said the UAE could resume LNG exports within 3-5 months. I dont remember the actual URL, but it was from a reliable mainstream western media.

They can resume some exports. Certainly not the full pre-war output - AFAIK.

And everybody has to be sure this thing holds. Which is anything but certain.

Aaaaand close again. That was fast. I suppose someone will announce it open by the time i finish typing this post.

One open issue is fertilizer prices were very high during the planting season which will only impact prices at harvest time, if farmers did not buy fertilisers then the yield will be reduced also hitting prices

This thing has a very long tail.

Farmers will undoubtedly want higher prices. But (like every seller) they want that all the time.

It doesn’t mean that they’ll get them. Not at all.

In many countries, the price of certain basic food items is not entirely a market-driven number.

It’s political.

Making global bulk prices largely irrelevant in the first place.

If it is 2026 the year of economic armageddon I probably am fucked.

But then I am not even worried, because I have seen it. Many times.

I do just do some mathematical things when it goes down. Maybe I will have to sleep under a bridge for doing that, but what?

OK, apart from buying a cheap laptop in Spain I just do the following: buy and hold and when my captain tells me… sell.

In the “western” world people are accustomed that the market always rules out everything, but don’t forget the real threat of dictatorship or ww war which can last longer than your lifespan, so sleep well captain

I am quite old and invest like I was 20. Since a long time I always just do the same in the same situation. I know, Chinese philosophy would laugh at this approach, to put a binary evaluation to all the very unique and complicate situations.

But my captain (that is what I call my mechanical strategies) gives me peace of mind. I always know what to do and then just do it. I made most money in my life in or after bear markets and that is when I take most risk.

I am not a big fan of Yin/Yang, there have to be extreme deviations to make life a bit more interesting. But of course that makes life more dangerous too. I think I already broke almost every bone in my body because of my risk appetite in sports. Maybe there are parallel lives (goofy, please help me with the plural of my life/live dilemma) and I did die already a dozen times, nice way of looking at it.

I have some built-in parachutes in my mechanical strategies, live to trade another day, and I will follow the captain to the bitter end if needed.
