My phone seems to be on 5G off and on at home. Doesn't seem to be any better than 4G+. Is anyone seeing appreciably faster speeds on 5G?
In hardbrücke, I get speeds of 800 MB, that's pretty good imo
I think location plays a big role on the speed
Wow!
My phone is supposedly on 5G right now and speedtest rates it at 12 mbps.
It all depends on how close you are to a tower, and if you have multiple towers in the area. A 4G signal travels around 15 km. A 5G signal travels not even .5km. Also the 5G signal is impacted more severely by buildings and even trees!
5G is much faster but it is a much more delicate signal. You really have to be in an area with multiple towers or just simply be stationary. I remember reading one study that, in a city, you have to have towers about 100 meters apart to get a reliable signal.
It's all about the congestion. In 5G it is not possible to set a speed limit, 4G allowed for that. In Switzerland I haven't seen any operator selling mobile plans differing price per speed, but that is the norm in my home country. I was curious about that when my parents got the 5G offer but it was only the 5G unlimited, digging deeper I found out that the operators can't limit the speed in that standard.
Anyway, 5G/4G speeds vary during the day. In my current apartment I have between 30 and 60 Mbps on 4G, but the few times I randomly woke up early morning, 3 - 5 am, I launched the speed test and saw 120 - 200 Mbps. The signal strength is always excellent, it's just too many subscribers around using the bandwidth during the day.
True, also Swisscom seems to be faster in 5G than Sunrise. I got 1100MB next to Seedam Center
