Is MFK public record?

If it's unclear or you suspect that a vehicle failed its last MFK, is there a way to verify this officially within the Kanton of registration before purchasing? Will they readily share past test results with anyone who asks?

Just ask to see "Permis de circulation" (Grey Card) it is stamped on here, bottom right side, (box 39) either it passes and they stamp or it doesn't pass and they don't stamp

Actually it doesn't get stamped, you get a new freshly printed card.

At least in SG.

Not in Vaud, nor Fribourg, it is a date stamp with a cantonal crest

I finally got through to the Strassenverkehrsamt in ZH. They just needed the Stammnummer and they gave me the most recent MFK results over the phone. Very kind! So it is public information that anyone can access.

The problem I encountered was the dates stamped on the ZH issued Ausweis had every test date going back to 2005, clearly a new test every two or three years. But the most recent test was 2014, and the registration was cancelled in 2021. I was guessing the only explanation was a failed test at some point. Turns out they just forgot to stamp the test that it passed in 2017. So all is good.

Apparently there is quite a long backlog for MFK in Zurich - I bought a quite old second-hand car from my previous employer, who bought it new and loved it - 100% service record etc etc. ..... The MFK was fresh when I bought it and he told me to expect 3-4 years before the 'Strassenverkerhsamt' expect to see it again

Not wanting to derail the thread but can someone confirm:

a) you just wait until they tell you the car is 'due' to be checked

b) the interval can be 4 years or even longer, even with a car that is in it's teenage years ?

Here it gets stamped.

I have gone several times 10+ years with no MFK,current record is 14 years, soon to be 15 if they call my in next year for my 999R.

If the gray card is not canceled a missing stamp will not tell you anything.

And even so if it is.

I will cancel one next week, as I have no time to prepare for MFK until spring.

Does not seem to be any rhyme or reason for the delay length, trailers can be for 10 years or more.

The covid pandemic also threw a spanner in the works.

I actually think that some offices re-print (like Albisguetli in ZH), some offices stamp (like Regensdorf).

Could be wrong, have had to re-print the grey cards a couple of times because of address changes
