Is Physiotherapy covered by Insurance?

Hi all,

My wife has had an accident which led to her leg hurt. Now the doctor has inscribed physiotherapy sessions for her. We were wondering whether the physiotherapy sessions are covered by the basic insurance or not. She has CSS's studentcare. She works 100%.

Thanks

Yes they are with doctor's prescription. I think there may be a maximum per year but not sure.

They reimbursed 18 sessions for our son after his accident. ( covered by accident part if insurance)

In your case, likely yes. It depends on what caused the need for physiotherapy. After an accident, yes, they generally cover a number of sessions. If it is a birth defect or other long-term situation, it likely will not be covered, or need to be looked into via AI or similar.

I suffered a trauma from an accident, and physio was covered. The accident insurance covered the whole thing 100%, I never even saw a bill.

In your case it should be covered by your accident insurance. I recently broke my shoulder and have been in physio since the end of August

This. My employer's accident insurance covered all my physio after I dislocated/fractured my shoulder skiing.

One point to add is that the Physio MUST be prescribed by a doctor to be covered.

Hello dear,

I am just going to take your post and explain.

So it is a accident, if she works more then 8 hours a week it is covered by your employer's LAA (accident insurance). That is for the good news.

For the bad news. CSS studentcare has had many legal problems. Will be stoping the 01.01.2015. I am sure you receive a letter to inform you of that. You will have to find a new basic health insurance. sorry for the bad news. I work in insurance so if I can be of any help please do let me know.

You must check your insurance.

If it is an accident it must be covered by your employer insurance, so in that case your insurance CSS's won't take part on the costs.

Summary:

If you work more than 8 hours per week for a company or individual, you are employed by them. You must inform your employer if you have an accident. Physiotherapy is usually covered by the accident insurance. Often the bill is sent straight to the employer. If you send the bill for an accident to your health insurance, they will return it unpaid (see last paragraph).

The compulsory employer's accident insurance pays for all your accidents: in work and out of work, even when you are abroad & on holiday. Even unemployed people registered with the RAV or ORP are covered for personal accident injuries. The insurance covers you for injuries during employment, up to 3 months after you leave the employment (<- check the 3 month period).

If you are not employed, or receiving social security , you need to inform your health insurance, and buy accident insurance cover.
