Young horse (puledro) is sold as such, and much more tender!

However, that's an issue with indifference to animal suffering, not an issue with the type of animal. It's not much different from the disgusting slaughterhouse abuse exposes which crop up regularly in the US. Just because an animal is destined to be meat does not warrant abuse, regardless of the animal and where it is killed.
What bugs me is that the 'oh it's a cute doggie' thing often eclipses the suffering issue, and as we've seen earlier in this thread, often conceals a deep cultural bias and is used to maintain a sense of cultural superiority.
Personally I don't like "farmed meat" (cow, pig, chicken, lamb) so much but more a juicy elk, rabbit or a deer - the wilder the better!
normally people don't want to eat "cute animals"...I say the cuter the tastier!
Sorry mam, I don't see any difference morally between eating a dog and a baby cow or a baby sheep...
Some eat dogs
Some eat horses
Some eat frogs
I drink cow milk
and then eat its meat
A juicy sirloin
Is a US treat
I'm a barbarian
And what is even worse
I skin the bloody thing
To carry it as a purse.
I hope you are vegetarian if you think like that. Me personally i wouldnt eat dog or cat because i only eat vegetarian animals. In addition i dont think i know anybody i switzerland that eats or ate cat or dog meat.
Cat is very similar to rabbit, one of the main differences is one of them has round rib bones, the other flat rib bones, but taste wise almost impossible to tell the difference.
Dog however is like nothing else. It's a red meat, stronger then beef or horse, not as sweet as lamb. It needs to be cooked well, it can be stringy, especially if the dog was old. It's reputed that lighter coloured animals make better eating, but i think this maybe a myth.
As our so-said "civilisation" seems to think meat eating is a sign of prosperity and an acceptable thing to practice, then the actual form of the animal you eat becomes somewhat irrelvant.
There are cultural differennes and the Western civilisation prefer animals that have seen a farm during somepart of their brief lives, the East however do not worry so much about this and are quite happy to eat animals that are happy being city dwellers.
Which is more civilised, the West or the East....

So we can probably class half the world's population as barbarians for eating "rover"
* The 'C' stands for Chicken, in case you were wondering ...
P.S> Most Chinese girls would consider us to be babarians for eating something as lovely and fluffy as rabbits.
About the rabbits... I went to a Sichuan hotpot place in Chengdu that specialized in chicken and rabbit - and you could pick your preferred meal. The boss's little daughter was sitting on the front step, petting a big, fluffy rabbit. He came out, grabbed it, put it on the scale, and disappeared out back to turn it into dinner for someone. She was unperturbed, grabbed another one from the hutches and went right back to petting.
That was a little disconcerting, but not as much as the chicken testicles and congealed blood with dinner.
would you agree its a very small minority in switzerland actually eating dog meat?
