Is there any alternative to Ikea?

Hello

Just wondered if anyone knows of any good alternatives to Ikea (similar in price range and quality) for buying furniture etc. in Zurich?

I'm looking for a white breakfast bar but Ikea have a very limited range.

Thanks!

Micasa have similar sort of flat-pack furniture, so do Conforama.

If you dont mind not being able to visit the store, home24.ch has free shipping!

If you allow me, I will link to this older post of mine:

The cheaper and medium range have similar prices and quality as Ikea (though Ikea varies a lot in terms of price and quality withing their own products). And as newtoswitz mentioned, you also have Comforama and Diga Möbel.

Most of these shops are quite together in Dübendorf. Even Ikea is 3 minutes away with the car from the Furniture center.

Conforama usually has a bad reputation, but the sofa we bought there for 600 chf was great and after teo years we are still very happy about that purchase!

Micasa has higher quality and prices than Conforama or Ikea.

On a quality scale I would put, from worst to best, conforama, ikea and micasa.

Toptip is ok.

Everything I bought from Micasa was far from quality. Poor finish, does not last long and more expensive than Ikea. But we can all agree that Conforama has the lowest quality of all :-)

But Micasa also sell branded products which are good quality such as the Danish Flexa beds for kids.

I agree, Micasa sell a wide range of stuff from their own brand flatpack wardrobes (which seem to be awful), to solid wood furniture that's very good quality but not as expensive as a Pfister or similar.

You can try JYSK when they have sales on. The prices can be quite competitive with up to 60% discount. Got some of my furniture there about 4 years ago and still happy.

Intero has bits that aren't much more than ikea but better quality, have you tried there?

Probably not what you are looking for, but antiques are excellent value in Switzerland - you can also buy second-hand in Troc Shops.

Many catalogues too like Vac.ch and ackermann.ch that usually allow you to spread payments over a period of time.

Definitely Interio.

+1 for interio.

Just to share an experience:

When we moved last year we went on a mad hunt for furniture on a budget but not wanting to have an IKEA magazine styled home.

We were lucky enough to be looking around at the same time the sales were on and got some absolutely superb deals from higher quality shops. We went to Pfister, Interio and TopTip and ended up paying less than IKEA.

Pretty much every Swiss I know is buying their furniture across the border. The German furniture shops deliver to your home and take care of all the tax savings for you... Konstanz or Waldshut are the most common options. I found Moebel Dick (sic!) in Waldshut to be the one we end up buying stuff most of the time.

We are buying quite a bit of furniture from Moebel Dick in Waldshut and got some quite nice discounts on a few items. They are custom making some shelves for us and will deliver everything to CH. Great service so far.

Pfister & Interio cheaper than Ikea ???? Was it super sales or something ?

Good advice. We picked up some decent furniture at the local Salvation Army shop for very low prices. The more unusual the piece, the lower the prices tend to be as, it seems, most people want bland designs.

Bah. Any type of troc-shops that I go into charge prices reflecting the belief that the furniture is actually from Louis XIV's palace in Versailles... complete rip off.
