so the title said it all. I suppose the best way to change CHF into GBP for a short trip to London (hopefully the volcanic ash does not come... is direct withdraw GBP using a swiss bank card, or in my case Postfinance in London. I will be flying into London City Airport and am wondering if anyone has used the ATM there (if any) before? Else I would appreciate tips about finding the right ATM for Postfinance card in London city? (Have some GBP cash, but just enough to last for one day...)
There is an ATM there, right next to the Travelex money exchange at the entrance. I would assume that Postfinance cards will work in that ATM as they would in any other.
Thanks....hmm...I will reach around 5pm something. Hopefully there are still money then.. And just to reconfirm, this method of withdrawing GBP is the best right? Compare to bringing in cash. And I hope the is no unpleasant surprise about commision later (had experience in Germany where the card can be used but higher commision due to the different bank ATM)
huh? I am having the normal Postfinance card for the online set or something like that they call it. I remember reading somewhere one can withdraw money worldwide under partner ATM...?
Calling Postfinance user who has used their card (non-travel one, normal one) in overseas, specifically UK?
If you follow the links I provided for the PF Cash Card you'd see that they no longer issue them but the ones in circulation are still valid till the date that is shown on it.
I can confirm that a regular PostFinance card will withdraw money worldwide.
However - I have not been able to find a machine in City airport that would give me cash with it! I have asked at the cash exchange desk there about it, and they confirmed that certain cards will not work there, and it seems the PostFinance card is one of them.
Just get cash out when you get to your destination...
We got cash out in London, but not at Heathrow....
So, no last minute shopping for me on the way home...
And, no, it wasn't because there was no cash available...it was because the 'travelex' machines and whatever sponsored ATM's at the airport wouldn't accept the Postfinance card...
you always have the option to tug some £££s before your flight. I'm assuming you'd be using the Mecca that is Zurich Airport. There are ATMs there loaded with € and £.
