In order to make footwear buying online (handmade boots that I cannot try and buy in CH, and yes I know that isn't 'ideal' but it is what it is) a little easier I want to get a full 3D mapping of my foot done and am wondering if there is any place in Zurich where you can walk in and ask for that and only that to be done?
I basically want to know the exact dimensions of my foot in as much detail as possible including all of the length/width/height measurements and I want it done by a machine as I don't fully trust the accuracy of doing it myself by hand. I also doubt (I admittedly haven't tried) I could walk into a tailors and just ask them to measure my foot in detail without buying anything.
Does anyone know of anything?

I just saw Migros Sport X do this for running shoes free of charge, but it is a full suite of tests based around running shoes. Yeah I could go and be cheeky and get it done, but it looks like it would be a bit annoying. I'm afraid I am unable to help with your exact question, but I know a guy who had boots made and he said the fitting included sitting, standing and hanging freely dimensions so the boot maker can model around these dimensions which change as your foot is in motion.
I've no idea was this guy just making up a yarn to make his boots sound fancier, but it sounded plausible.
I just went into Ochsner to collect an order and asked about the foot scanning (and offered to pay) and they did one gladly for free and it was very quick too. It wasn't the 'full 3D' but at least the length, width and instep. They have a full 3D one in the ski boot section so I think I will go back there and ask for that too. I've been a good customer there and spent a lot of money over the years so I don't feel guilty going for free scans.

You can of course get shoes made to measure if you are willing to pay the price (a couple of thousand usually). I'm not at that stage of mental justification (yet?).
No stress, I doubt a tailor would even know what to do with a foot, a cobbler might have a go.
Outside of the shoe stores and the likes, have you considered a 3D scanner used by modelers and people into 3d printing? Might be a strange request for some, but I would guess there are some commercially available in the city.
I know in a previous company we had a handheld scanner and the fidelity was amazing when scanning someones head. Not it's main job, but if you have toys, you will play with them.

I've had the assessment at SportXX and will grab that opportunity when available after having once to use custom orthopedic shoe inserts for year after a foot injury.
A cobbler 'generally' repairs shoes, they usually don't fit and make them. I used the term "tailor" a bit too generally, as in all likelihood it would be a shoemaker who both measured and made the shoes, although I assume a tailor could measure you then pass the details to an in-house shoemaker. A cobbler would generally do neither of those things.
There’s a young Italian guy in Zug nr PostPlatz who makes made to measure shoes plus shoes repairs and orthopaedic soles. He learnt the trade from his father and we’ve been super happy with everything he’s done for us the last couple of years. Might be worth a shot and he speaks good English too if needed.
Might I be cheeky and ask: Do you know roughly what a price range for hand made shoes might be?
I have been unable to find shoes that truly fit anywhere in Switzerland; I'm now at the point where the pain vs cost threshold might be tipping in favor of handmade.
Do you know, for the ski boots, can the computer choose a boot using reference scans of boots or is it still a human process i.e. "you have a low volume foot we'll put you in a low volume boot"?
We have only used his repair & orthopaedic soles services to date - but he's been able to rescue stuff that others balked at. In the foyer of his shop he has a selection of men / women handmade shoes plus handmade golf shoes too. My better half thought the prices were reasonable but TBH I can't recall. Hope that helps!
well guys, today I went to Risch shoes https://risch-shoes.com/ for my appointment for a full foot scan and also in the hope that they would also be able to supply me with some footwear, as the prices ok and I also would have loved to support a local business.
I walked in and Mr. Risch introduced himself, I explained that I was looking for some decent shoes and wanted a scan. he led me to the 3D scanning machine and I put on some special socks and then he fired up the machine. Holy crap, this thing is really advanced and mapped my foot with amazing accuracy and detail and gave me measurements for everything that matters in a shoe.
I then tried a couple of shoes on and found a design that fitted, then told him I was specifically looking for derby style leather boots and, and... they don't do derby boots. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Oh well, they have lots of other nice things I will check out for Summer, and the foot scan was really amazing, hell I would have paid just for that but it was a complimentary part of the process. I asked if I could take a photo of them and I was allowed, so that was how I took them home with me. Usually they aren't visible in your Risch customer account, which seems a shame as I like having access to data like that.
