is there any objective benefit to owning a holiday flat?

aside from the cache and "cool factor"? (and a place to stay when skiing, etc)

specifically, I'm wondering if a foreigner (non Swiss, non-EU resident) buys a holiday flat, he would have any legal benefits (things such as preferential treatment in obtaining residency/citizenship in the distant future, less "red tape" with the municipality, easier to incorporate a business, etc etc)

i'm aware that switzerland (unlike many other countries around the world) provides few (if any) direct benefits to holiday-home ownership, hence why i'm asking here to get your anecdotal experience(s).

thanks.

You‘d better check if you as a non EU would be even allowed to buy a holiday place?

And no, no special treatment unless you are really rich.

What permit do you have? A B? In that case you can only own property that will be your main residence so a holiday place wouldn’t be allowed. L permit - can’t even buy a main residence property far as I know.

Before proceeding, the OP might wish to read and understand the Swiss law “Lex Koller”, in particular, the limited exception for holiday homes in selected cantons:

I’m not aware of the possibility to use a holiday home as a backdoor into acquiring legal residence in Switzerland but what do I know.

For more information on obtaining legal residence in Switzerland, with or without gainful activity, please see the attached link (German):

Also, Ordinance Art. 32/ Art. 30 Abs. 1 Bst. b AIG allows residence permits to be made available for “important public interest” such as: a. significant cultural interests, b. state policy reasons, c. significant cantonal fiscal interests, d. presence of a foreigner in context of criminal proceedings.
