Is there really life after death?

recently i was a bit scared if there is life after death really? A pflege (caregiver) friend of my just told me a scary story at work in a careplace for people in their terminal state about to exit this world. A case is one crying out horribly:...look death is here to take me...can you not see!..and the next 5 minute she was stone cold.

No

damn gbn got there before me

ok i'll say yes

Life, no. Consciousness is eternal.

We don't have any proof either way, but I believe there is - purely on faith, I confess, but what else have we to go on?

That is, if you're nice to the mods they may allow you back on EF after a period of time.

What is life ? Legally, medically defined ? None of these exist after death, because death is the logical end of life, surely. They are mutually exclusive.

The mind/consciousness remains. Returns to where it came from and finds a new life. The cycle continues.

Think about it a little, you can't have your body in another life (burnt to death an extreme example, so what form could life after death take ? Your life is a soul/consciousness within a physical body. Take the latter away (death) and what is left ? Does the soul /consciousness exist after death is a better way to ask the question...

tried to reply: + 1 but apparently that is not allowed = too short. The story of my life!

Life is the set of forces fighting against death (M-F Bichat, 1771-1802)

no one came back to tell us. But sensing that you're going to die soon is something that can be rationally explained.

A mullet-tastic song from 1984: Live_Is_Life

Why be afraid ?

Since all is transformation and nothing is lost, wouldn't it be perhaps a birth into a better world.

I like UTH's theory.

What is there to be scared of? If you are scared of heaven and hell then fear not. They are just creation of human fear. No living person can answer your question truly and dead people don't talk much. When a car starts running out of fuel it starts misfiring. Similarly a dying person misfires and stutters resulting in them saying things that match their religious and life views. Our brain knows when the battery is about to go flat. Human ego has problems dealing with the fact that there could really be a full stop to their life hence many different stories exist of what happens after death. All without any verifiable factual basis fortunately. Don't ever let another human tell you this or that happens after death. Their guess work is as good as your guess work.

I don't believe in God or religion but find some kind of inner relaxation and comfort when I do Yoga or listen to some Krishna devotional music. It keeps the hippy inside me well fed. Here are couple of tracks by a departed Krishna devotee George Harrison. Maybe similar music might calm you down?

Now where did I place my chillum?

In case you wonder what the hell they are singing-

We will have the final answer when we'll die... but I truly believe there is.

Just study Near Death Experience, there just too many same things, even with people from different religions or even atheists and I don't mention other things which are more *supernatural*.

I also prefer to believe there's something more that just the stupid time of life we're living now.... I would prefer to die right now if life after death was false.

This should be a poll. My vote is "yes" for the spirit, soul and body. However, concentrating too much on life after death, takes away from making sure you have a life before death. And helping others to achieve that as well.

I believe our spirit lives on after death and as with DB, I have faith that this is the case.

As it takes just about as much faith to believe or to be convinced of either one we are free to choose what we want to convince ourselves of I suppose.

The answer lies obviously, according to mere brutal logic, with someone/something other than us mere humans.

I love fairytales.

I love to believe that there is another place to continue life under a different and way better set of circumstances. I simply prefer this mindset and be prepared for it.

If it is all nonsense and the contrary is true, that there is nothing after death, well then I've got absolutely nothing to loose. That too is simple logic.

Not correctly attributed (see: Paul Darwin Foote, "The Temperature of Heaven and Hell", 1920) but still funny!

Personally, I believe there is life after death ... and, if you believe in an omnipotent God, then it doesn't matter what happens to your body - bodily resurrection is also possible.

When you die your body will help create or sustain existing live in other species or plants, so yes there is life left in your body when you die, it's just not yours, as far as we know. It would be a bit freaky if everyone of your cells lived on with your conciseness it it..But still quite cool, being many places at one time

I like to think of death like this;

What is the point of spending a life time gathering information and knowledge for it to be snuffed out, it does seem a bit pointless when you look at all the logic in the universe around us.

We all have an energy within us, I am sure I saw it once I chewed a little piece of paper with a picture on, it revealed auras around everyone. If that aura contained our energy or if you prefer to call it a soul it was not material, when the material breaks down it has to be released somewhere.

Where it goes is down to what you believe or what you would like to believe, what ever calms you or gives the best meaning of your life. Billions find solace in religion because it offers the calm of a pleasant after-life, it takes the edge of your fear of the unknown.

I too was in a hospital when a chappie screamed 'I'm going' he was right, he didn't say anything about an angel of death or anything sinister, maybe he just felt that his physical could no longer sustain his spiritual.

You can rest in the knowledge that death is a part of the circle of life, we all go through it and we may all meet again in one form or another....

Stop worrying too much about it or you may find the stress will lead you there before the rest of us.

Have a pleasant day!

if there really was life after death, mankind would have learned to be a little less dramatic about death, wouldn't you think?
