Is Uster and surrounding area a good place to live?

Dear all,

My husband and I are moving to Zurich next month from Geneva. We have started our flat hunting around the Uster area. We have one cat and I am due to have a baby in August. We both love the outdoors and my husband is a keen cyclist. I am too but for obvious reasons cannot do this at the moment. We have a budget of 2000 - 2800 CHF a month.

Do you think this would be a good area for us to live in? Are there many other ex-pats living here and can anyone recommend any mum and baby groups in the area?

Many thanks

Laura

If you do a Quick links > Advanced search > Uster (and select Housing in General as the Forum to be searched) quite a few Threads come up, some of which most probably touch on this question.

Good Luck

(Saturday morning with the sun shining is probably not the best time to be asking questions on here. Half the EFers are recovering from Friday and the other half are already off doing something interesting. )

Greifensee is a great place. One stop nearer to the city than Uster. Four trains an hour into Zurich.

Carefull there. Greifensee is on the S9 and will take longer to get into Zurich than it will in the S5/15 from Uster... The S9 stops at every stop on the line. The S5 and S15 only stop at Stadelhofen.

I lived in Uster for many years and it was a good place to live. Shopping on Sundays in the train station, close to Greifensee and Pfaffikersee and close to the A53 for getting out and about by car.

Uster, Greifensee, Schwertzenbach.... are all lovely.

Volketswil and Dubendorf are far more industrial.

I used to jump on the S9 every morning, pregnant up to my eyes, and go to work in Zurich. Many fond memories of the area
