I've been... [offered 122K, is this a good salary?]

We just moved to Basel on a similar salary and are able to send about 1/2 of our takehome pay back to the UK. Still have enough to eat well at home (too well) but not for eating out, travelling etc.. so the less you have to send home the better. I'm not sure if it is the best deal financially but sending money back is very easy. You need your IBAN code from your UK bank (we have it printed on the top of every bank statement). Then as long as you have e-banking with your swiss bank you can send an electronic payment to your UK bank. Kantonal BAnk in Switzerland charges us 4 CHF for the transaction and Lloyds in the UK is charging £4 - so 2 small fees and you are at their mercy for the exchange rate. You can also pick the date you want the transaction to take place.

Earn? Earning's for the wage earning classes dahlink. I try not to talk about money.

Oh, and I'm contemplating McDonalds for supper, interested? Or will you be eating Caviar n' chips for ya tea?

Why is there no McCaviar?

Your so modest Paddy!

My English is need of improvement after so many years away, but can someone tell me what "converse" in this context means?

Or did he mean convert?

Too many low class people with high incomes, too few high class people going to the golden arches. Too much obsession with money, too little with proper birth.

Yes, money still talks

No, I think he just wants to chat about it

I have been offered a salary of 123k.

My salary is distinctly better than yours.

The difference can pay quite some KFC lunches for you in the developed world.

Indeed so. But we're talking about Switzerland here

The difference can pay quite some KFC lunches for you in the over- developed world...

An excess supply of McDonald's is not exactly more natural if that is what you want to say about Switzerland... most peoples' reality is living in the "agglo", not in a farm on a mountain.

Yeah, we have no KFC here

Thankfully, still smart.

When I arrived here 122K was £54K. Now it's more like £80K. There was a guy posting recently, who was offered a swiss salary converted from his current UK salary. He's not got such a good deal.

hey man, your good!

I never thought of that!

Thanx

This is an absolute low end salary here. Please don't fall for it

By the way, could you please PM me the company name, brief job description and hiring manager's name . As I been out of a job for a long time, I am now "forced" to apply for such low paying job

No cutsies, get back in line junior

It's easy for us U.S.'ians. 1 CHF is approximately = 1 USD (ouch) and everything is twice as expensive, except skiing, I think.

Re the other part of your query: I find it really easy to transfer money out of the country through my bank here. The bank charges 12chf for doing it. WHen I lived in the UK, my bank there charged 25 pounds for any TT to another country and required a heap more paperwork before doing it.
