Jaguar Reliability under TATA

Hoi,

anyone had any experience with Jag and how reliable are they after the TATA buy out?

mostly curious about XFs and XJ, but others would be interesting too.

Dunno about post-Tata Jags but my wife's 4L 6-cyl XJ40 is still running beautifully after 26 years and 220,000km. Over the years I've had to replace a few bits, but parts are still readily available from UK suppliers.

I don’t think there is a reliability question with any Moden car - even Lancia!

Jags of the 60s, 70s & 80s were a pain, but that‘s history. With the F-Type and iPace coming along, they make fine motors...

My impression is that reliability has improved under Tata.

Consider joining forums.jag-lovers.com We've got various forums for the modern Jags where you can ask owner's opinions.

Perfect, will do, thank you!

And thank you all, this had been quite helpful.

Cheers

So, before I moved to Zurich a month ago, I sold my 2017 Jaguar F-Pace.

I guess I can't say too much about reliability as I only had it 1 1/2 years and it was a first model year. So there were kinks to be worked out. Overall I was happy. The only issue I had was a break pad wear sensor broke, but was quickly replaced.

The other issue I'd say was software quality for the infotainment system. It was pretty shit. They would come out with updates, and it would get better, but that's after 1-2 days in the shop for them to install it.

With that said, would I get another F-Pace? In a heartbeat.

wow, you must be every car manufacturer's dream customer.

But who buys a Jaguar nowadays anyway?

Me....

I am sure they’ll be a bit cheaper soon 😬

I thought Ford raised the quality from rock bottom to Ford level. The Indians then in turn raised the quality from Ford to Tata... so by now you should be fine.

I think reliability has actually improved post-TATA as they've had the money to leverage best of breed engine tech, pour money into building their cars properly rather than borrowing bits of old Fords, PSA and BMW parts bins.

Haven't owned a TATA-Jag, but had one of the last "real" jags - an XJS...

I find it hard to imagine a world where reliability went down! It was beautiful to look at, but a miracle if it would drive!

Real Jags have oval grilles, and veneered dashes.

I know someone very high up at Jag, he tells some interesting stories seems they don't do a great deal of testing prior to release of a new model, instead preferring the customers to find the bugs, tells me lots of funny stories of their stupid mistakes, like mounting the convertable roof electronics unsheilded in a water gutter or getting reports about a car lifting at 160mph at the ring - which they wouldn't even look into, but they where puzzled as to why the engine haddn't gone pop before that, as they all did before that

his advise was don't buy a brand new model, let others find all the problems first

And yes he does drive a jag he bought himself, with his own money, so that tells you all you need to know really.

I know people in the German car industry and none of them buys cars the way we do. They get them for 50% off under the condition that they have to keep them registered for themselves for at least 12 months. Then they typically resell them and get the next one as they make some money off the employee purchasing plans... I don't trust them on their opinion as they hardly ever have a car for long enough to find out the issues.

But anyways: from what you are saying should it now be ok to buy an f type as it has been around for five years?

he bought his 2nd hand Jag are no where near as generous to their employees as the germans.

Yes I did ask him about the f-type when it came out, and I was tempted, he said the bugs had pretty much been ironed out now. just don't redline it round the ring

Jaguar to me should be those with a classic design, such as this:
