Jamie Oliver: Eat to Save Your Life

He's got to huff and puff a little bit and pretend someone is in big trouble but of course he won't sack anyone. The whole idea of fifteen is getting scamps into gainful employment.

One thing though, people are paying a fortune in his restaurant to eat free range, and then they are serving up battery eggs. As a customer you would feel cheated.

No different to buying a hybrid car and finding out its running on diesel.

I haven't seen it but it sounds really interesting. Did they show the comparison between a healthy man and an obese one?

Some hints... gym is more effective in the morning. The body has more energies and produces the best results.

Personally I practice lots of yoga. It keeps me in shape and it helps me to detox by body (through the practice and breathing techniques).

NOT DIET is recommended. Eat everything but less. Starvation doesn't help. Try to avoid canned food and reduce salt (spices are good to make food tasty).

Once in a week (or every second week) drink only herb tea to detox your body. It also helps to reduce cholesterol.

I know it is not easy but after the first 2 weeks you will feel absolutely energized.

After I moved to Zurich I did not follow any of the advises I had been given u and I gained 6 kilos (than I am now trying to loose). I can tell you that I felt every single gram I put on (I felt tired, lack of breathing etc).

Good luck

Max

Canned/Frozen vegetables are in some cases healthier than fresh vegetables. There is no problem with eating these (so long as no salt / sugar was added)

But only reduce salt if you need to. For a few of us, it can be a problem not having enough salt in the diet.

Hi,

what always shocks me is when people add enormous amounts of salt to a cooked meal before they have even tasted it. I am getting enough and probably too much salt in my diet without adding more.

Have fun

Martin

Uncomfortable reading.

That annoys me, too.

Except if it is to a bag of fish and chips.

About the detox thing on an earlier post, about a year ago there was a BBC programme where a reporter tried out a number of detox diets / techniques of varying prices including one really disgusting one where she attached pads to the soles of her feet overnight and all the bodily toxins were supposed to be drawn out. Turned out the pads were impregnated with substances which turn dirty black or brown when they simply come into contact with sweat but you can see how some people would be convinced...

Anyway, she was given an examination by a doctor who found that after each detox method she was no better "detoxed" than if she had merely eaten more fruit and veg and drunk a bit more water.

Doctor's conclusion was that the human body is actually pretty efficient at getting rid of its own toxins without gimmicks.

I cook everything fresh and from scratch. Make my own bread, buy fresh vegetables (or plain frozen ones), tons of fruits, plain nuts etc etc. All my food is boiled and I never fry or use any butter/oil. I add lot of spices, herbs, garlic, onion and ginger to my food. There is absolutely nothing wrong with spices on it's own. It's just people tend to combine spices with lot of fatty sauces that does the damage. I use just a touch of salt in my food. Don't drink any fizzy sugar bomb drinks. Yes I am a food Nazi I am planning to live 200 years and smack your kids around when you are all gone

Btw did anyone watch a news item recently about Coop and Migros fruits having high chemicals traces on/in them? Apparently Coop fruits have lot more than Migros ones. The food industry literally gets away with murder!

regarding the channel 4 food season did anyone see the raw food fanatics programme? people who only ate raw vegetables, they felt that cooked food would poison them - one couple invited their friends round for a raw food meal complete with a raw lasagne, it was very amusing watching the faces of the dinner guests - they obviously thought they were insane

One women was bringing her kids up on a raw diet, these kids were home schooled so didn't have trouble with what they ate at school, but it showed them having a family day out at the seaside and they were at fast food kiosk looking at normal every day foods with a mixture of confusion and awe, they'd never eaten anything cooked processed, meat or dairy in their lives.

I understand eating raw veg is good for you but sometimes people can be too extreme!!

It's funny if you gradually cut down on salt then you don't miss it at all. I don't anyway.

Actually, cooking Vit A rich foods with a bit of fat helps with maximum digestion of the vitamin. Chuck a bit of olive oil over your carrots when they are done for extra benefit.

The more raw food you eat the better. I personally could not go 100% raw though.

I get my fat from plain nuts and seeds I sprinkle them on all my dishes. I eat lot of olives as well.

I've found that writing down what you eat everday really helps in improving diet! Provided you don't lie. I've been doing this for a while (the journal I use also counts calories http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Index.html ) and it's been much easier to change my diet this way. I always ate quite healthy, but as I have to take cortison long term for a medical condition, it is really important I watch what I eat. Weight gain and cortison go hand in hand but I figured I didn't need to make matters worse by not watching my diet. (Does anyone out there have experience with long term cortison usage?)

I cycle to work every day (except when the weather is really foul) and take a ride into the woods some evenings after work. It's the only activity I don't have to force myself to do.

Looks good starbug but not free! I sometimes use free Openoffice to log my food intake and weight. Then you can use the various columns to plot a graph/chart etc. Bit like keeping accounts.

Strange, I use it for free..

eating fresh/raw is all well and good, but it's not true that eating 100% raw is better for you. many foods are better when cooked. same with "no fat ever". i also think people massively over-rate the dangers of chemicals on fruit and veg. i never wash them. rock and roll.

there was an article in one of the uk papers a while ago about the fad for fad diets - people eating only raw or only lettuce or only red things etc. it's effectively a psychological problem - they obsess about sticking to their rules and get more and more extreme until severe malnourishment.

Do you mean Cortisol or Cortisone? If it's cortisol then the more common side effects would be stuff like increased blood pressure / blood sugar levels, so maybe 50-75mg aspirin a day will help with blood pressure, and then an awareness of your carb intake will help with regulating blood sugar - particularly focus on checking the GI and II of the foods you are eating, not just "simple" and "complex" carbs - for you the more important thing is knowing the glycaemic index of what you're consuming and avoiding insulin spikes (reason being, high glycaemic index means a big rush in blood sugar, which then leads onto a rush of insulin, which acts as a carrier / storage agent, and so any fats or unused carbs from your diet will be more readily transported and stored as bodyfat)

If it's cortisone, then all of the above is rendered irrelevant

Sorry Starbug I meant the desktop version is not free $29 for sake of health is not too bad though. I might buy it.

Exactly. Everything in moderation and a bit of what you fancy now and again does you good. Worked out well for my grandparents who lived well into their old age without too much in the way of medical problems.
