As part of my integration into Swiss life I am hoping to join a good JiuJitsu club in Bern. I've found two clubs so far - Nippon JiuJitsu and Bern Jiu Jitsu & Judo Club. Would anyone here happen to be members? I myself am a brown belt JiuJitsu that has a traditional background with evolving modern techniques (defence against more modern day realistic attacks such as knives, muggings etc.) I've also found a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (ground fighting style) and some Muay Thai kickboxing. Any thoughts about any of the local clubs here in Bern?
my understanding that all "jutsu" schools are somewhat of pre-Restoration history arts. and then evolved into the multiple arts we have. Judo, BJJ etc. ̈
No, where I trained in Germany it was very straight forward self-defence and had no "spiritual" or cultural aspects attached (with the exception of a belt-system). I guess the closest would be Krav Maga or Systema.
The idea was pretty simply: Take all martial arts, have a look at them and decide which pieces work best for you. So we really practiced a stick defense from Eskrima in one session and Thai boxing knee attacks in the next...
Traditional to me is no nonsense. I have been to some modern dojos here in Australia where the dojos are unkept, there is no discipine and traditional respect for the art is almost non existent. It has been converted into a tool for violence rather than as a self defence art, or has been watered down to the point that it is more playtime for the kids.
I long for traditional, japanese based artform that is entrenched in respect and structure.
I just long for pressure testing and noncompliance on martial arts. That is all. the rest for me is sorta LARPING. Not that respect and traditions are bad things, but those things should be kept in check in comparison with what the Martial Arts is.
Yep can see why you would get hung up on that, not intentional on my part, my apologies for the ambiguity. Swap 'the original' with 'a traditional' and that makes more sense.
