Junior Bank Account and Card

Nothing new - kid goes to secondary school, needs basic means of payment (ideally something you can put in your Apple wallet but hey)

What did you do for your kids daily needs: cash? card? something else?

Twint?

We opened a junior bank account for him. We put some money in there initially to cover emergencies then we put a certain amount of money into the account for him every month and he had a bank card he could use to buy the things he needed.
It was in the days before TWINT and Apple Pay but it worked well for him at the time. The regular Mastercard bank card could easily be added to TWINT ot Apple Pay nowadays.

We also made sure he had some cash in his wallet just in case but that’s probably less essential these days.

All banks offer kids accounts with debit cards, usually from 11 years old, and are free (account and card). Eg Postfinance, UBS to name a couple. They can be added to apple wallet , use with twint, or use the physical card.
Advantage of using the parent’s bank: they can add it + monitor transactions from their e-banking, instead of having to use a new one.
