Hi, I opened Migros bank account today and the staff told me that the card would arrive within weeks.
So, cannot I do anything before that?
Online banking? Temporary card?
Temporary card would take as long as a regular one.
No idea if you can do online banking, did you get access codes for the app (if M has one)?
Should be a week or so. Until then you are only allowed to sit at home and stare at the walls.
I'm sure you can provide the account details to an employer, or do in branch banking.
It seems that they will send the card and access code within weeks. That’s very weird because that literally means that I as a new customer cannot use banking service for weeks if I dont have any other bank account.
I even dont know the account number. And I cannot use twint with it now.
To clarify, I am not complaining. Just out of curiosity.
Quite simply, go to wherever you opened the account and ask them how to access your account
Sorry for the snarky response, I last opened an account a few years ago.
When I last did so, the documentation had the account number included so I could provide it to my employer. If I needed cash I had to go to the local branch with ID and account number to withdraw.
At the time I didn't have to pay bills, so I have no idea how that works although I thought that's what the red slips were for.
I have never opened a bank account and got instant access, always had to wait for cards and codes etc to come through the post. The quickest access I've had is with Wise and Revolut where you can use the app whilst waiting for the cards.
My partner opened a Migros account a few months back. At the time the customer service said they were really busy and there was a backlog for new accounts. She waited around 3 weeks I think, with no real option of using the account in a temporary way. Hopefully they are working a bit faster now with no Covid restrictions etc they should get you up and running a bit quicker.
Nothing that helps on EF or Switzerland but when we lived in Singapore we walked into the branch with passports and permits and walked out with Online banking setup (calculator in hand) and bank cards where printed there and then. And this was a few years back
Waiting weeks for cards seems a bit much really.

I think I got it all within a week, but hey, Corona times so it may be slower still.
