Kabelio Satellite TV

Hello,

Has anyone tried the new Swiss Kabelio satellite TV package on Eutelsat Hotbird? I'm wondering what the exact activation procedure is, as all I know is it requires a Swiss address which you need when you activate the module on their website. I'm assuming they verify the address somehow?

Thanks,

Amber

You want it for the Swiss channels? I'd have thought most people get these via their tv/internet provider. Or is it you want to get Swiss satellite TV in the UK? From a quick search seems you'll need to buy a card for your satellite receiver (or TV) Note that you need a satellite dish pointed in the right direction and a satellite receiver *built in or otherwise) to receive satellite TV. You'd be amazed that some people don't know this! Whether they check the address I have no idea but that's where they'd send the viewing card to.

It's actually the three British channels I'm interested in.

For those who don't know what Kabelio is, it's a new Swiss satellite package for people in Switzerland who don't have access to a local cable provider and don't want to or can't stream channels via the Internet. It provides a mixture of Swiss, German, Austrian, French, Italian and UK channels to Swiss residents. It aims to replicate what is available on cable TV via satellite.

I'm interested to know if anyone has signed up and that the procure was. The CAM module can be easily bought on websites like Amazon.de and it doesn't require a card as each module has a unique number. On the Kabelio website they ask for the module number and some other details (I'm guessing your Swiss address, payment details, etc) for the activation process. Officially the service is only available to Swiss residents.

As an ex-resident of BL I have contacts in Switzerland but I'm not sure how much they need to be involved, and to be honest I'm hoping as little as possible since they are friends of friends.

Then point your dish at Astra 28.2 and get all/most of the free British channels for free. If you have the right equipment you can also get German SAT1 etc, Austrian ORF1 etc and other channels from the same dish. Just no Swiss ones, which is fine with me. I have a 'freesat' receiver but you don't need a special one.

Sounds like a commercial :-) You do need a dish in the right direction and a receiver/TV with sat input though. I have a dish spare if anyone is interested... The swiss channels are what you're paying for. The rest are probably free-to-air. It's not exactly cheap.

Where do you plan to use this Swiss service?

As pretty much the only reason to sign-up would be the Swiss channels you're probably better off asking on a Swiss forum, facebook or on amazon.

I do actually have Freesat in the UK but unfortunately the decent UK channels are on a tighter beam which doesn't go much beyond France/Switzerland/Belgium unless you have a huge dish. The Hotbird beam is very wide in comparison and reaches much further east.

Ha sorry, I didn't mean to it sound like that, just wanted to explain to anyone who was curious what this new service is as I'm sure most people haven't heard about it as it only started in October.

For my parents in Scandinavia.

Yeah that did occur to me but this is the only Swiss forum I know of and I figured everyone speaks English here so I thought it might be worth a shot. I'm not on Facebook and it's still fairly new to have much info on Amazon so it's only got a few German reviews.

Next I'll have a smooch around some of the specialist satellite forums as they may have a few interested users who are thinking along the same lines as me.

Like you I am interested in Kabelio. I have ordered a cam but I have to figure out how to activate it because I don't live in Switzerland and therefore I don't have a swiss address. Has anyone else got around this? Is it only an address that is required? Any help appreciated.
