KDE German test Ordinary Naturalization Kanton Zürich

What’s happens if you messed up the KDE German test I got 27/30 for the speaking part as I already have the written/hearing A2. How many attempts can you have or do the city use their discretion? Can you also put your application on hold until the test is passed? Thanks in advance!

There is no fixed legal maximum number of attemptsfor the KDE, and it’s quite common for people to wait until they pass the test…

Isn’t 27/30 enough to pass? I thought you needed 60% to pass and that’s more than 60%.

The first part the introduction is max 15 points the second on a daily topic is max 35 points. Yes you need 60% to pass and I 27 from 50 which is just below the pass mark.

Ah ok. You said 27/30 not 27/50 in your original post which is why I was surprised it was a fail.

Sorry my mistake :see_no_evil_monkey:

I’ve been led to believe that I need to go down this path too..

How did you pick which exam to take? Fide vs telc vs goethe etc?

Hi there! I took FIDE a year early and got my B1. I found it much more accessible than KDE since most schools in Zurich are organising exams on regular basis. It’s also very easy to find targeted prep courses or private lessons to work on your weaker points.

Another great option is SDS

May I ask what the FIDE format is for the speaking part? How long was it for? What is the pass mark to get the B1 speaking?
Thanks!

I don’t think the SDS is accepted anymore - I can’t see it on the pdf of accepted tests.

I did it last autumn, I had one picture of a lady that missed the bus and she was going to a Friend Bday party. I had to explain the picture and impersonate the call between the two parties.
Then one of the two arguments was news and media, or Bank/post, I choose the first and I had to explain how I read news here in Switzerland and what are the main channel I use, then the interviewer asked about TV and radio.
It was conducted in a very friendly manner and I exceeded the expectation I had, more than 90%, I think to get B1 you needed to reach 79% on the whole oral exam (which includes also the listening part).

it is, in Zurich it was added to the list recently, and it is in the list you shared.

You’re absolutely right, mea culpa. I missed the second page of German exams!

Thanks for sharing! The FIDE (40mins) seems more intensive that the KDE (15mins)and that’s split between 2 candidates 2-3 mins introduction with some follow up questions and then 3-4 mins on a choice from 4 flashcards on everyday topics.

The SDS is on the List of recognized language certificates of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM).

The test results can thus be used in official procedures (naturalization, receipt and extension of residence or settlement permits, etc.). In addition, the SDS certificate can be presented for various training and further education courses.

Hi there,
is there personal interview for naturalization anymore in Zurich gemeinde?
someone passed last months?
