Keeping a mobile number & changing provider

Is there a system in place whereby I can keep my present mobile number and take it to another mobile provider. Ie go from Swisscom to Sunrise or vice versa.

I did this switching from Orange to Swisscom. You just have to ask them in the shop. Bloke didn't bat an eye so it must be a fairly common request.

I think Sunrise do this.

Number porting is supported by them all and should take 6 days now (max) IIRC.

Swisscom Easy (prepay) to Orange Abo will take until 31/1 having signed contract 16/1, and they quoted upto 3 weeks in the shop.

Number portability is very common these days ( for those who want to venture ) .... Just have to go in to one of the phone company shops and let them know your request ie. Go to an Orange shop if you want to switch to Orange ..... YOu need to fill up paperwork , as you would do with a new line . If your current abo still has some months to go , they will even remind you to terminate ( one of the forms to fill ) and initiate the transfer .

Very straightforward and is seamless to the end user ... Certain operators even give you special deals ( new phone , credit etc. ) for doing so .

Hope this helps ...

No problems at all with the changeover, but my change, in November, from Sunrise Pronto (prepay) to an Orange contract took just over two weeks (did the paperwork in the Orange store on a Saturday, and the changeover happened on the Monday, two weeks later) - dunno why this takes so long here (compare 24 hours max in Ireland) - but it does
