Are you still interested in Kettlebell classes? I know some in Zurich, but also I have my own 20kg kettlebell and live in Seefeld. I think it could be interesting to work out as a group by the lake for instance. With partner training your partner can motivate you to push harder.
I am thinking about buying a kettlebell - any recommendation for the weight if I am going to buy just one? Could I start on my own, learning from youtube videos, or is it better to get a trainer because of risk of injury?
I am medium athletic and thinking about the kettlebell for regular fitness, Actually I was just reading about the Turkish Get-Up exercise with a kettlebell which looks like a great exercise which could kill you after not too many reps
KB are a great tool. It really depends somewhat on your sex and fitness/strength, but as a guide for guys 16 or 20kg would be a good start, girls 10 or 12kg. Regular but not specialist users would probably get to 24kg and 16kg respectively quite quickly. Do get some instruction on the basics; you need to learn reasonable form.
You can try most of the moves fairly effectively with a dumbell (swing, TGU) to get a feel. Do spend the little bit extra to get a "competition" shape bell with a milled handle and standard size.
I started with a 20kg one and it is very light when doing swings but is a fair old weight when doing one handed shoulder press. Now I have a 32kg one as well which is a big boys kettlebell. 50 swings with that will have you blowing like a surfacing whale. Still can't quite do one handed shoulder press with that one - but almost. Dont overdo it the first time or you will be so sore you will feel like you have been in prison for a few weeks and picking up too many bars of soap in the shower. If you value your derriere ease into it.
Thanks both. I'll probably start with 20kg since I'm comfortable with that kind of weight for gym exercises like dumbbell press etc. The blowing like a surface whale sounds good - I am looking for something new that would push up heart rate and has a kick to it.
Back in Zurich for the next 3 weeks. Would love to meet up in Seefeld area and swing bells! PM me and we can figure out a time..perhaps kettle bells then jump in lake! I have only one bell here.
Did you buy a kettle bell? I'm looking to put together a group to motivate one another.. Seefeld area. See previous posts. PM me.
