Other than that, we take trips to Germany and back home to the UK.

For those on a budget (me included):
furniture: IKEA, or search the forum for used items (they come up pretty often). IKEA also has bibs, wash cloths, a simple baby bath, changing table pad and covers, some soft blankets, etc.
clothing: H and M (make sure they have a baby section-the Bahnhofstrasse location near Jelmoli, Oerlikon, and the Glatt Zentrum, maybe others as well), or online at www.vertbaudet.ch or www.laredoute.ch . Also, used clothing bundles are frequently sold on EF. Also, for rain gear and snow suits, try searching for "Kinderboerse" in your area. Some are permanent, some are single day events, but often Reima and other good brands come up at reasonable prices.
Shoes: I always bought the Elephanten brand shoes, which worked well for my kids and are supposed to be good without costing a fortune. They have them at Dosenbach (and lots of other places).
strollers: You might try an online retailer, like www.babyjoe.ch or www.babybutt-ch.erwinmueller.com . Or, beg someone to bring one from across the border. Or used.
We’re still working out whether she has permission to live here at present.
If you know some german you can get second hand stuff on www.ricardo.ch
It's a great site. You do have to sign up though with your snail-mail address so they guarantee you are who you are.
Also, some bigger migros (one of the two prominent supermarkets) also sells kids stuff, aka clothes and toys. Sign up for famigros and you get special discounts and points.
Also your Gemeinschaftszentrum (community center) will have clothes/toys sales. check out yours here www.gz-zh.ch . The community center in Seefeld has an all year round one, meaning it's like a store, albeit second hand.
Cheers,
