klinik hirslanden and water birth

Hi everybody!

Anybody had recently a water birth in the Hirslanden clinic?

Which is the best Klinik im Park or Hirslanden?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant so I have time to decide

I will be really really happy to hear all your experiences!!

thank's

I can recommend hirslanden but I had a Csection. However all their birthing suites have a birthing pool too. I recommend going to have a look round

Congratulations. Do not worry that you are only 12 weeks. It's great to have the time to get your ideas together.

As long as both give you the option of a water birth, you need not concentrate on that aspect of your choice, but rather on which suits your own requirements better.

It is great to have plans as to how your labour will progress and having maximum flexibility is probably the best plan of all, as none of us quite know what will happen until it does.

I planned a home water birth for my first .. went to a lot of bother of getting a birthing pool set up etc, used it for a few hours and then, because I was useless at pushing, had to come out and eventually had the baby in the living room.

With my second, I also planned a home birth but decided to not bother with the water pool as it was too much like hard work. In the end, he was in a hurry, and was born in the bath

Hi!

I concur with what the others say and would add the following:

1) Have a look at both Kliniks and see which one you like best. If you like both the same just go for the one closer to home/easily accessible by husband after work

2) I had water birth at the KIP. Great experience Could only do it with baby #2 as baby #1 had a too big head and doc was scared she would get stuck. Hence, as said, have a wish but keep flexible as you may have to decide different on the day itself

And of course... congrats

Ciao

I have no experience with Hirslanden, but I agree with what ecb says.

With my 8 grandchildren, only half have been born in the way my daughters would have liked, and the others were born safely but not always 'to plan'.

Be prepared is a very good motto - not only for the Girl-Guides.

I went twice to hirslanden to give birth and it was great. However, I find the thought of a water birth....disgusting..a whale sitting in his own blood...(sorry but this picture always comes to my mind while thinking of water birth).. But there are tons of mums who loved it...

Hirslanden has a huge tub.

Not disgusting .. just funny!

Each to their own!

I know it's just me. Everyone wanted me to go into water and I refused...

I really wanted a water birth and said so at my hospital talk before the births. Both times they wouldn't fill it up. I think they were shirking away from having to clean it

Does anyone know which clinics in Zurich offer water birth as an option?

Not had a birth in CH but my last birth was a long awaited water birth... was bed bound for my first son due to pre eclampsia, second son nearly appeared in the car so no time for water birth... went early for third son despite that still had 3 mw and hubby rushing to fill it up...

I digress the waterbirth was fantastic it took away the head crowning pain and as my contractions for the last birth were not only in the front but in my back it eased this pain as soon as I got in... once the baby is born though you have to deliver the afterbirth outside so they can make sure it all comes away cleanly etc. Oh and the waterbirth was the only one where no stitches needed despite a very quick entry by my son!

Congratulations on your pregnancy and wish you a very healthy pregnancy x

As I said above all birthing suites at the Hirslanden have a birthing pool - can't speak for any others

Congratulations!

I had my second and third children at Hirslanden Aarau - sorry I don't live in Zurich...

Appart from the atmosphere and distance from home/your partners work place I would also ask your doctor where he/she will deliver. Being able to have your own gynocologist at the birth can be a real help. During the pregnancy you can already talk about your ideas of how you would like the birth to be, and your preference to pain relief etc. As many have said birth often happens differently to your ideal plan, and this way you and your doctor can make decisions easier.

Good luck with it all.

all clinics in Zurich offer the option of having a waterbirth (private ones and also the public ones like Unispital or Triemli). This is normal standard here. Just make sure that you tell them well in advance that you're going in that direction, because not all birthing rooms have a bathtub. If they know what your plans are, they try to give you a delivery room with a tub, but they can not guarantee it. But they'll do their best to fulfill your wishes. Birth rates are quite high. And if you need support in finding out more about "giving birth in CH" you might consider hiring a doula for birth or postpartum support. You'll find them here (and yes, I'm a doula ;-) )
