Since the season is coming on for grilling, do not buy a Koenig. We bought one less that 2 years ago. I have always had a Weber (10 years) with with no problems (couldn't bring it with me)! But the Koenig was on sale at the Fust. After the first year I noticed some rust on the top grill (vegetables, light meats). But I didn't do anything about it. We always have it covered with their reco'ed cover, clean completely before the season and after and wipe off with grill pad after use.
Well this season, getting ready, the top grill part is completely rusted out despite the care. I could not find a replaceable part at any store so I emailed them.
I know the warranty is complete after a year, but using their care instructions, the top should not have rusted out.
When I explained the situation, they wrote back that they 'expected parts will have to be replace in 2-3 years on their grills, and parts are not usually available from their warehouse'! And invited me to pay for the part if it was/when available.
Future grillmen beware! Just go for the Weber.
Best one I ever bought was a Grill Chef, still have it - like new after 2 years; Coop often have them on offer.
I had a Weber once, bought second hand in about '96 and eventually skipped, when I moved in 2011 (the last few years of it's life it was seldom used) ..... that also had some rust on it.
Funny thing TiMow - in their email, they said 'with frequent use parts may blah, blah, blah'. What is that? Am I suppose to use my grill 2-4 days a week of the summer? grrrr....
My point was, that my Weber (charcoal) served me well, and was even responsible for someone calling LAFD, when I was experimenting with smoking in an area of tightly packed wooden houses.
However it was retired when I bought a Gas (Calor, Gas Club) lava rock grill, from Landi for 129, a few years back.
If you let enough fat drip onto the lava rock and don't change them, you still get a smoked flavour - although, not quite as good as charcoal (but quicker and easier).
From time to time, I also cook direct on burning wood, in a feuerkorb.
Our Weber also had a significant amount of rustn it too despite having been well looked after.
Laughing at this, because I smoked pulled pork -- the neighbors were kind enough not to call the Suisse police, but were calling down from their window as they thought the house was on fire! We will see what Koenig does because told them very upset that top grill rusted out and I could not find the part. And the response was 'we expect that..., don't use your grill frequently'??? Good way to get consumers to buy new parts.... Anyway, hope weather holds, and good grilling to all!
You shouldn't really be using a charcoal BBQ with neighbours above you, it's extremely inconsiderate, especially if you were smoking food. Gas BBQ's are more suited to those environments.
It's gas. And we have a yard, so I pulled it back. But still, smoking meat makes a lot of 'smoke'.
Why? They can enjoy the smell and if they dont like smoke then shut their windows
Ahh apologies, I thought you were talking about charcoal grills. I'm due an eye test soon.
If you have to ask why, then there's no point explaining.
No worries. I didn't specify it was gas. We like charcoal, but we were told those grills can upset neighbors, so we got the gas!
