L Permit and Bank Account

Hi all,

I suspect my situation is not entirely unique but I couldn't find a solution looking into other posts. Perhaps more to say about my search skills than anything else.

But here it is.

I am British, took a job in Zurich for 6 months as a freelancer. Will be paid in Swiss Francs.

I work in Zurich from Monday-Wednesday, rest of the working week I work from home ( London). Which means I stay in hotels/AirBnbs two nights every week. This works out cheaper for me than renting an apartment.

Currently, I am on a work authorization, and have to apply for a L permit within 90 days, which needs a local address proof.

Also, I have applied for a PostFiance account, as read somewhere that they allow you to open a bank account even when there is no local address, but that might have changed as they are also asking for 'Current Residence certificate' ( whatever that means) along with a valid permit.

I wonder if there is anyone who is/was in the same boat, and managed to procure an L permit and a bank account without having a local permanent address.

Thanks in advance.

In this case you maybe should apply for a permit G instead of L

Thanks, I will look it up. Haven't come across that before.

Thanks A.

Not sure if you’d be able to get it for just a 6 month contract, but it never hurts to ask.

Yeah, dropped an email to the Zurich Migration office ( [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) ). Not sure if it is too optimistic to expect a reply sometime next week.

Thanks

A.

Just go to UBS and show your permit. they open the account instantly.

We used to do it on the day we landed in Swiss. they dont need permit (card) as well. i dont think its difficult. just walk to your nearest UBS branch and they get it done within 30 minutes.

I did open an account with UBS on my second day in Switzerland without a permit card yet, but they did require the Anmeldebestätigung with my address in Zürich.

I opened my bank account with UBS prior to moving here, but than that was on recommendation from my company.

They ́ll be much stricter now due to increased KYC requirements

Called UBS, they wouldn't do it with just Anmeldebestätigung. Need a permit.

It also didn't help, that I have no address in Switzerland.

Yes, that's the sentiment I got from different threads in EF, that things around non domiciled accounts are much stricter than they used to be.

Well, looks like things have changed since 2012.
