L permit restrictions and specific questions

I have been informed that I will be getting an L permit (was hoping for a B permit). I am a non-EU passport holder and I don't need a visa to stay in CH as long as I have a residence permit and can support myself financially. My job contract is open ended. I have some specific questions about my situation:

1. I have been offered a free accommodation in canton Zurich by a friend. Can I accept that and continue to work for my employer in the neighboring canton. I am yet to come to CH and register anywhere.

2. My employer will allow me to work from my home country (if I wish) for extended periods of time. Can I do that and for how long without getting my L permit cancelled? I would maintain an address in Zurich but work for my employer in another canton.

3. Is it possible to convert my current drivers licence to a CH licence while on L permit. According to my information, it is straight swap for my nationality but it is not clear what residency requirements apply. Is it possible at all with L permit?

4. My employer claims that after 24 months on L permit, I will be getting B permit. I find that difficult to believe. I think that they will have to prove that no other suitable applicants exist in CH/EU. I am not sure how they got me even an L permit without passing this test first. The workforce in the area that I specialize is in short supply but still..

Normally on an L permit you need to live in the Kanton that gave you the permit.

Check with the Kanton you want to live in if they agree to your living there (before you move).

Working in your home country: you forfeit your permit if you stay there more than 3 months (I think).

Part of the argument for a non-EU citizen to get a work permit is that the employer is unable to get someone to work here. If you are demonstrating that the work can be done remotely then it may negate the argument for having you here in the first place.

It is possible, but your residency permit must be for the canton you're living in. Make sure your employer knows.

To get an L permit, they've already had to prove that.

3. My understnaindg is yes. Make sure to do this in the first 12 months are you would need to re-do the test in Switzerland. I missed the 12 months so wont bother.

4. That depends. Some cantons give out many L permits for many years. Some rules are treated as guidelines..
