Lake Zurich Swim

I have vaguely heard that there might be some kind of summer event which involves a swim all the way across the lake.

Google is not my friend at the moment. Anyone heard of such a thing?

see here

Hmmmm am tempted to register... used to be quite a good long distance swimmer in my day.

Yip I've heard of it, it is usually on a rollover basis in July and August. As far as I remember the select 3 Wednesdays and have it on the first one that the weather is suitable. Closer to the time there will be advertisements in 20min about it.

I've thought about doing it and never quite gotten around to it, are there many EF people interested in giving it a go. I thinks its about 1.3km.

Hmm, that is not a sight I had come across before...

Another option is the swim down the Limmat, Limmatschwimmen, on August 25. Very laid back and fun event, just float along. People bring all kinds of beach paraphernalia, which makes it a very colourful event, too.

More details: http://www.limmatschwimmen.ch/

You have to buy tickets in advance.

Or if you are feeling extra fit you could try the Triathlon

We do this every weekend with our dog as soon as it warms up enough. And no ticket to buy! I am surprised more people aren't doing it. We are probably breaking some rules...

If you are looking for a real challenge, try the looking at the following:

http://www.srichinmoyraces.org/ch/ve...ltungen/zhlake

Its a marathon swim in the lake of Zurich, not across but rather the length. Starts in Rapperswil and ends at Tiefenbrunnen Zurich. its about 26km long.

Did it as a relay with 2 friends years ago. took abut 7.5 hrs. Just watch out for the ferry the goes between Meilen and Horgen :-)

Gaysport Zürich? Usually Zürcher refer to this event when they talk

about the Lake crossing. It's one month earlier and just 1.4 km, and it's open to heteros, too.

The real challenge is the Klausschwimmen in the Limmat in December... haven't done it so far.

OK.... so is anyone out there mad enough to consider the relay team effort..... I'm game just need another 2 people?

Any volunteers... Simon?????!

And we could do the swim across the width of the lake the day before as a warm up event!

It was the first thing google came up with???

You are obviously joking right I thought a 16k run was good going for me, but to swim it? Lunacy.

I have a friend with a boat for that journey...

It's only 8.8k each with a team of 3 easy peasy!!!

Hey Jemma,

How does the relay work? you switch over at various points on land or do you do it in the water?

I might be interested if I could convince myself to start swim training again. The beauty of only swimming across the lake is its reasonably easy to just turn up and do it... I know... feel free to call me lazy!!!

From what I can gather you have a team of 2-3 people, each person swims for an hour then next swimmer for an hour and so on... rules state that you cannot change the order of swimmers. So in effect you get 1 hour on and 2 hours off (in team of 3) then back in water again.

Not sure how the changeover works exactly, think this is where the boat hire thing comes into play as you can either pay them for a boat to follow or sort out your own?

Know what you mean about laziness...used to swim loads when I was in the UK and this might just be the thing to get me started again!

The swim event sponsered by the city of Zurich will take place July 4th weather permitting and is called the SEEÜBERQUERUNG and infos can be found on their website:

Yip... right there with the used to Swim loads thing... now my swimming is fairly limited to say the least.

This might have been answered already (sorry haven't gotten around to reading the various links) but dies anyone know how much time there is between the seeuberquerung and the Rapperswil to Tiefenbrunen swim?

Rapperswill Tiefenbrunen is Sunday 5th Aug

the other swim is sometime in July!

Thanks Jemma,

That means can due the seeüberquerung and then think about the Rapperswil Tiefenbrunen one afterwards!

So how many EF members or on for splashing their way across the lake at the start of July?

Re-reading the thread the swim in on a Wednesday, meaning I have no clear excuses not to go.

I am definitely in if anyone else fancies it.

How do we enter?
