Langnau am Albis (ZH) - looking for opinions

Hi all,

I did some searching here but not much is on the subj. location. We are considering buying a house near Zurich, around silver coast. We are a family with 2 kindergarten age kids. Is anyone here living in Langnau? How is the location, schools, general social 'climate'? Anyone loving or hating the place? How does it rank in the broader scheme of things? I gather it is not as nice as Thalwil, but pretty ok nonetheless?

Many thanks,

B

It's just about the only 'affordable' area left down the valley...

Mixture of poorer rentals and family homes. The schools are also a mixture of both socioeconomic groups.

I've been to some very nice homes on Albis pass side. If you want alternative education then there is a Montessori school in Adliswil for children from 0-6 years, and a Waldorf/Steiner schule which is for children of all age levels. A lot of families use these for early childhood and then move to the local school.

If buying is your key purpose, then go for it...

If prestige is your key purpose, then it's one of the 'poorer' ends of town.

Thanks, thats what I thought. Our priority is kids' wellbeing - nature, schools, sports facilities. I see that there are two Primarschulen there - Widmar and Wolfgraben. The latter seems to be in the 'posh' side of town. Do you happen to know anything about which is the better school? Langnau am Albis looks good in terms of matura, about average for Kanton Zurich.

I live in Langnau it’s great. It also depends where you want to live in LaA

1 family detached house anywhere in the town, could be area strip between Wildnispark and railway

I have a family member living in Hausen, she loves it there.
