Large hypermarkets/supermarkets in France

HI,

I can say that you have different choises: I am living in St Louis soo you can chose between Match and Casino Geant or Leclerc are almost the same and the prices are interesting ( this two in Saint Louis), after you have Cora and Carefour in the commercial area near Mulhouse, you have a Cora also at Colmar, and the list can go on

Good luck

I forgot to tell that for the ones from St Louis you have to take from the border the bus 604 until croisée de lys and from there bus number 1, or if you come with the car you have to continue the "bale avenue" until croisée de lys and the light for casino geant take it left , and for match take it right. The supermarkets are big enough and you can see them easily.

For Cora and Carefour in the commercial area of Mulhouse is the hightway, you can't miss it since the signs are everywhere.

I like it there too, but of all the super marches in the area, it has to be one of the more expensive when you get your final bill.

That Hyper U is niiiice. Great winter time parking-the best I have ever seen. Lower Prices then Geant, but, a little drive from off the border. There is a recycle center in the same town, but closed on the weekends.

It reminds me of a small village of isles and more things made in China then China itself.

There used to be an Auchun, when you cross the border, in St Louis as you arrive in the centre ville across the street from La Poste and Societe Generale. It's called something like OK Shopping or something really generic like this, it's all in yellow and red. But it's just like Auchun, and if you are looking for cheap, an ok quality, that's the best buy in the area. Just around the corner there is a park(looks nice, but far too many discarded beer bottles and smell of urine-new swings sets and the like though for the kiddies), and across from there is a parking lot that on Saturdays has an outdoor marche, where you can haggle the price of the produce.

I'm looking for the addresses to put into my GPS.

If you want to go to a big grocery store in Saint-Louis with public transportation, the LeClerc is the easiest to get to.

You can take the 604 bus from Schifflande straight to it.

No bus changes.

There are two "discount" grocery stores in Saint-Louis that you can also take the 604 bus to (with no bus changes)

The Simply Market which is in town near the big intersection or

Intermarche which is on the way to LeClerc (across from the Elf gas station)

Both of those stores have lower prices if that's important to you. They also both carry a wide variety of products.

Most French grocery stores don't vary much in the products they carry. They generally all carry the same stuff. At least that is my experience. I've gone to ALL of the major grocery stores here in Saint-Lous and some of the big ones in Mulhouse as well. (I've been living in Saint-Louis for 5 years now).

There is a BIG difference between the products available in France and Germany. I've found quite a lot of American products at Marktkauf (very easy to get to for people living in Basel).

Not to mention the prices are usually better for Germany in general (when compared with France).

Hope it helps,

Suzele
