Hi everyone, several months ago, I started to have rosacea on my face. I don't have the red cheeks that come with it but little blood vessels started to break on my face and I can't stand it anymore!!I have several question. Do you know a good dermatologist in the schaffhausen/singen/konstanz area who treats these problems (mainly laser)? Is it covered by the swiss insurance? What is the price for a laser session?
I have just done 2 sessions of laser for rosacea in the Lausanne area with my dermatologist for redness and veins. It was not covered by insurance as I am told it is considered cosmetic. However, I would still check with yours to be absolutely sure. As for price, it was 400 chf a session - a bit pricey so was my xmas gift for last year and this year! Have been very pleased with the results but understand it is most likely going to need to be redone every so many years.
FYI, my dermatologist said it was important that following the procedure there should be no sun exposure for a few months. I therefore waited until the October/January time frame in order to minimize this concern.
Before considering laser treatments, I recommend you see your GP or a specialist to verify you have no underlying health condition that could be causing the rosacea.
I had it done a few years ago for veins on my nose.. it hurts.. you won't want to go outside for a week afterwards as you look like you've been beaten up.. it's expensive..it's not (usually) covered by insurance.. it doesn't completely take the veins away.. and, as mentioned above, the veins were back to where they were inside 18 months.
It's a generic, genetic condition, part of a raft of inflammatory diseases and there's very little you can do about it (don't believe the rubbish written about it being tied to your diet)
On the plus side.. the general 'redness' has been much reduced after having 'Skinoren' prescribed... took around 4 months to see the difference..
Tried this as well, for not too acute of a condition. Had 2 rounds of treatment in Zurich and each cost about the same as what's mentioned above. Unfortunately it did not make much of a difference for me, especially for small blood vessels. What does help is some sort of a supplement with vitamin c and something else in it (sorry the name escapes me) which is basically similar to what children get when they do not have enough sun. It is called Ascorutin in Eastern European countries. I also kept a list of foods or drinks which contribute to inflammations and having cut down on those, it did help quite a bit. Occasional zinc paste does the trick. So for me, laser was an expensive investment without too much of a result....Cheers, Q
Thanks a lot for your answers. I will make an appointment with a dermatologist in Germany because 400 CHF a session is totally over my budget. And once again you pay an arm and a leg for health insurance and it's not covered!!
I was just told by a dermatologist here that your first initial appointment will be covered by insurance (and then the derm. will determine if your problem is medical or just cosmetic). Of course, though, I'd ask you family doctor for a referral first and/or give your insurance a call.
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but if you're on any kind of heart meds, they could be causing the rosacea. I thought I was starting to develop it and then did a little research and found out that my blood-pressure ACE inhibitor meds (which cause blood vessels to expand) can cause rosacea.
There are some creams out there that can help a bit. I'm thinking about trying one of these, though I'll have to order from the States:
Thanks for your answer. Do you have basic insurance? Because I just gave my insurer my first invoice from the dermatologist and they didn't tell me I don't have to pay for it.
