last minute flights from the airport

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a cheap last minute flight from Zurich airport? I mean do they sell the remaining seats cheaper than booking on-line?

Thanks!

I was just discussing this with someone yesterday! I reckon it would be heaps of fun to go on a waiting list at the airport and not know where you were going! Does anyone know if they do them from Basel?

Swiss has Last-minute offer on their website - http://booking.swiss.com/web/Swiss-O...itzerland.html

I dont think they sell it cheap at the ariport

I've always wondered why airlines would rather fly half full than simply slash the cost of tickets 12-24 hours before the flight.

With the advent of the internet it should be easy to implement last minute ticketing.

Yeah, but if all the seats were sold how could the employees flying on standby ever go anywhere?

Hoi adventurous person.nope, airport is not the best place for cheap flights.u will spend more at the bar getting wasted waiting......look online and do it there.last minute actions are for every airline.think about where u actually want to go 1st-spontaniety-ah..waht a breath of fresh air-have a nice weekend!!! wendylynn

I had to fly back to the UK at the last minute a month or so ago. I booked the ticket by phone on the train to the airport. I think this was maybe less than 2 hours before the flight left.

It wasn't possible to do online, but it may be possible to do it at the desk. The ticket was the same price as normal, which was a suprise (Swiss), however, I once had to do the same with easyjet as I'd missed an earlier flight, and they jacked up the price.

it's certainly possible (even trivial) to implement, and has certainly been tried.

trouble is, consumers are smart enough to game the system. Incentivizing them to wait until the last minute doesn't help the airline - it actually drives revenues down.

The current system encourages you to book well in advance, and the last minute business traveler subsidizes the students and backpackers and thrifty tourists - as it should be.

Probably the same reason that many supermarkets would rather dump food near its 'best by' date than sell it cheap.

Eventually, so many people would be waiting for the bargains that they couldn't operate properly or make a profit.

It's difficult to beat human nature.
