Last month on RAV - accident insurance abroad

Hi,

I’ve been on RAV since October of this year and am going to start my new job in January (the contract is signed, everything settled). This month (December) I have no more duties to fulfil, no more applications or interviews. I am, however, still not allowed to travel abroad unless I take unpaid holidays or unsubscribe. I’d like to see my family after one year, but Iosing the benefits is not ideal in my financial situation. If I go without announcing it, I’m mainly worried for the accident insurance. Do I understand it correctly that if something happens I won’t be covered? I have a travel insurance which covers for the necessary medical expenses abroad and repatriation but in case of serious injury which will require rehabilitation or following treatments in Switzerland I am not covered, is that right?

It's also not clear to me, if I take unpaid holidays or unsubscribe from RAV if I will have an accident insurance in that case.

Thank you in advance, I'll be grrateful for any suggestion or explanation

You pay for the accident insurance by yourself(it is called abredeversicherung), will cost around 40-45 sfr per month(max . 6 months are possible).

You can add accident insurance to your health insurance for about 15- a month. It would cover the medical costs, but not any loss of earnings if you can’t work.

A bit off topic but just wondering, do you still receive unemployment benefits in December if you have a new contract starting in January? In other words, do your unemployment benefit payments cover your whole period of unemployment until the first day of your new job?

Of course (assuming they don't expire for any other reason).

As long as you didn't delay the start date, it came from the employer.

And if it's too far in the future the RAV could tell you to look for something else in the intervening time.

I believe you are covered for 30 days but can buy from SUVA via RAV iirc up to 6 months cover @ 25 a month. Zero excess unlike with adding to health insurance

This is another 'trick' in scamming the unemployment insurance - you contrive a later start date to get a month or more of RAV paid holiday.

I seem to remember that you need to have entered into this within 30 days after your contract ended. Not entirely sure though.

OP, by December 31 you will have accrued 1 week holidays. Maybe, together with the public holidays, that's enough for you? And with a new job starting January, it makes no longer sense for you to send applications. Did you discuss this with your RAV supervisor?

Another thing to consider is where you plan to travel, and whether or not you'd need to quarantine upon return to Switzerland in January. Your new employer/job may or may not allow you to work from home during quarantine.

The Swiss list of "must quarantine" countries/territories was quite small in October but has grown again. I would expect more countries to be added in the next few weeks.

Not sure you can do that if you are employed and being on the RAV would qualify as that if OP is already paying accident insurance via payroll deduction.
