I'm try to get from Rue Du Valentin 62 to Lausanne-CFF (Gare). The currently published schedule shows a break in service between Bel-Air and Rue Nueve but the map on t-l.ch does not. Construction, perhaps?
I did just find this: http://www.t-l.ch/images/pdf/presse/...getgeneral.pdf - It illustrates the gap in the route 1 service.
It looks like there are no simple connections to get to Gare unless I grab the Metro M2 line at Riponne. Yes, I know it's a short walk from Riponne to Gare but I'd be doing this only when the weather is extra foul (like it was this evening).
Any thoughts?
Also, does the standard zone 11 bus ticket cover transport on the Metro or would a separate fare be required?
Thanks so much for everyone's help. This is my first week in CH where I'm just an Average Joe and I'm not being coddled by anyone. It sucks but I'm learning fast!
One more question... A "short trip" bus ticket is 1.90CHF and a zone 11 ticket is 2CHF (both at halbtax price). What's the difference between these two tickets? I was doing "short trip" tickets today and they were good for only 30 minutes.
The half price CFF pass allows you to buy the regular CHF 2.60 ticket for CHF 2.00. Remember, you must have your CFF card with you if you are checked. This ticket gives you ONE hour of time on the system (in you case in the zone 11). The nice thing about the Lausanne system is that you can get off the bus and get back on, change directions etc. as long as you stay within the one hour time limit. Do not toss the ticket until you are out of the bus/metro as the controls are often when you get off the bus.
If you want more time on the system, you can go to say 1.5 hours and pay more (see the machine - on the second page of options).
Now for the CHF 1.90 ticket. First thing. The price is the same if you have a CFF card or not (have a look at the machine). The CHF 1.90 ticket is good for THREE stops ONLY not counting the one where you are (and is restricted to 30 minutes).
So to sum up. The CHF 1.90 is for three stops. The CHF 2.00 is your regular ticket, one hour with the half price CFF card.
Yes the zone 11 ticket covers the metro as well (see more details on tickets in the next response).
Not sure of your specific question on the break in service. You could get on the bus and ask how to best get to the train station. They will tell you if you have to change bus (pl. St. Francois) or if it is best to grab the M2 at Riponne (which I would suggest in any event).
Thanks for your help. I was breaking the rules yesterday with my short trip tickets! Zone 11 from now on.
I'll try the M2 at Riponne today and see how it goes.
As Verbier mentioned, you must have your half ticket card (CFF) with you while you travel paying 2fr/hr for zone 11.
1.90 fr. ticket is for 3 stops or 30 min (whichever comes first ).
The break in the service is indeed due to the construction reasons. The lines 1,2 and 8 are diverted to a different route from 6 Jul 09 to 23 Aug 09. Details here : http://www.t-l.ch/prod/index.php?option=com_tl&Itemid=8
Thanks. I keep my freshly minted 1/2 Abo in my wallet at all times.
While taking the metro is probably easier, just for the sake of options, you could also take the #2 bus towards Desert, get off at Jomini (I think its Jomini - that or its Beaulieu...I don't remember cause on one side of the street its one, and turn the corner and its the other) then take either the #21 bus or the #3 bus (both are rather close, just on opposite sides of the street) to Lausanne CFF.
No matter what you do, you would need to change, since the nearest bus-stops to you are Mémise (on Rue de la Borde) and Druey-Collège (on Av. Druey), that is if you want to get there fast.
However, bus #1 towards Maladiére goes from Druey-Collège and it goes directly to the train station.
Check here for the schedules:

http://www.t-l.ch/images/pdf/08/modu..._01/GARE_S.pdf
This is my problem... It doesn't due to the construction. Both of those pdf's are the original route, not the modified route that #1 currently runs.
Valentine has its own bus stop .How about going to Valentine bus stop , catching 1 no. in the direction Blecherette, getting down at Caserne and taking 3 no. bus or catching 2 no. in the direction Desert from Valentine and taking 3 or 21 no. bus from Jomini to Lausanne Gare.....so many ways to go to Lausanne station .
Oh.. I actually didn't know that... well, then you best option is to take the bus down to either Pl.Riponne and the M2 from or to St.Francois and take another bus from there.
I was down in the Flon today so I asked the question about the CHF 1.90 ticket at the T-L office. To avoid any possible confusion. Here is what they said.
Yes it is good for three stops and yes it is good for 30 minutes. But it is not good for 30 minutes anywhere on the system (more that three stops). The 30 minutes would however allow you to go out three stops then come back to the original place where you purchased the ticket if you can do this within the 30 minute time limit.
Clear?
Do Swiss university-degreed marketing majors leave the country upon graduation? Could the last one out please turn off the lights?
Yes, you are right there, however if you cover 2 stops only in 30 min (which is very rare), you need to get down from the bus .
