Lausanne or Montreux?

now that we have ruled out Gstaad........Iwould welcome opinions on Lausanne versus Montreux.. Never been to either and sure that some of you have been to both? thanks in advance

I live in Montreux and to be frank, there is not a huge amount to do here.

It is very pictureque and on a nice day, it's lovely to stroll around. YOU can visit the Chateau de CHillon ( http://www.chillon.ch/en/ ) which is about 3km away. There is a museum in the old town and you can have a game of crazy golf. WE do have a tourist info and I believe you can have a tour or the town. http://www.montreux-vevey.com/index....n&MainMenuId=2

The shops are not great but there are a nice selection of restuarants. Vevey is a short ride away and also offers few attractions.

Lausanne has much more to offer in terms of museums, the cathedral and shops etc.

I know all three very well and I would second tolalala's comments. Montreux is much smaller than it's reputation - a big village really. And apart from the lakeshore strip which is very pretty for an afternoon stroll, it doesn't have much to offer unless you're really up for the quiet life (the two weeks of the Jazz festival excepted). In Winter it's really dead. If you're looking for a small town, I would prefer Vevey any day over Montreux because it has more buzz about it all year round and you have easy access to anything Montreux has to offer. However, if you're looking for the city life then Lausanne is the only choice.

Your previous thread mentioned that you were looking at options of places to visit for a weekend. It would be useful to also put that info in this thread, otherwise people might start to think that you're asking them about where you should move to.

lausanne, nice

montreux not as nice even needs some updating esp lakefront
