[Lausanne] Special restaurant for birthday dinner

Can anyone recommend a nice place to take my parents for a meal, it's my mum's 70th Birthday so needs to be a bit special. So far Ihave been told Beau rivage, Movenpic and Grand cafe du Casino, anyone have any comments on any of these or alternative suggestions?

Cheers,

How much do you want to spend? The Hôtel de Ville de Crissier (in Crissier of course) is one of the top restaurants in the world, but it's costs a pretty penny.

If your mom likes chinese, try the Au Canard pékinois is excellent but a little pricey

Happy Birthday to your Mom and have fun

Relais de la poste in Grandvaux, just outside Lausanne has fab food and a great view over the vineyards and lake. Here's the website

A bit further out, at Chexbres, there's "Le Deck" at the Baron Tavernier hotel which also has a stunning view (more pricey/flashy than the Relais de la Poste). Here's the website

Another thing that might be fun is the steamboat "Montreux" it's being run for the time being by the Beau-Rivage palace, or at least it was last summer.

Also in terms of really nice upscale places there's La Grappe d'Or which is near the pont des Bessiers.

Can you give us more info about what you're interested in?

Here's a review:

The Philippe Rochat that the review speaks of in the first paragraph of the frommers review is the celeb. chef of the restaurant in Crissier that I mentioned before:

As MarkJ just said, I'd also sugest for a very special dinner La grappe d'or. After visiting quite few restaurants, this is by far my favourite in the region. For a very nice meal including wine you would expect to pay 80 CHF per person, so in my case is reserved for special ocassions, like a birthday dinner.

There are so many great restaurants around Lausanne that it's difficult to choose when it comes to a special occasion! I'd add the Pont de Brent, L'Heremitage at Clarens, the Cerf at Cossonay and Ravet's place at Vufflens le Chateau to the list. For good, but not stellar, gastronomic experiences in a lovely setting, the Hotel ds Trois Couronnes and the Hotel du Lac in Vevey are worth considering. Denis Martin (the Chateau at Vevey) is great fun (in the Heston Blumenthal mode) but perhaps not for the older or more traditional diner......but if your mother has an open mind and a sense of humour you could consider it - prices, as with all gastro restaurants in the region, around 200/head plus wine.

Regarding Le Deck (the outside part of the Baron Tavernier at Chexbres), this is without a doubt the best terrase on the whole Léman but it is therefore very popular. The clientele is mainly young and well-off or groups of business people. This means that the enclosed restaurant section can be very noisy and I would certainly hesitate to take my parents there to eat, although I'd strongly recommend taking them for an apéro on the Deck itself. But even for that you should reserve ahead of time.

Whereever you end up I hope your mother has a wonderful birthday!

Depending on the budget you could try here [link ]. Quite expensive but really worth it if you would like the whole michelin rated thing (carries one star).

Lat outing some months ago came in at around 1000CHF for four people for a five course mouth watering meal.
