Hi all,
My sister is visiting next week for a few days and the weather looks nice. I passed by the tourist office to get info but it was too crowded and so I thought my EF friends will help with more hands on experience.
Id like to go to Lautrebrunnen village and trummelbach falls - all using public transport. Which station should I head to and where do I go once I reach there. Is it OK for back and forth in one day or not enough?
Same goes for Meiringen. I know there's a cable car somewhere to go up and have lunch at top and then hike down to where Sherlock Holmes died or something.
Any insight to either of this or other places would be great.
Thanks.
We've always driven there, but this might provide you with more info

The aare schlucht (aare gorge) is beautiful and an easy walk. It's Aare Gorge in English. And the falls are close by (reichenbach, i think). Both the sbb and postbus should have info online.
Reichenbach Falls is where the character was written to have plunged to his death.
From Zurich, you change at Bern then Interlaken Ost.
If you're in that area you can take a cablecar up to Muerren which is also nice.
Cheers,
Nick
That is often the quickest way, but I'd recommend going via Luzern and changing onto the train which goes via Sarnen. It's not much slower and the route (via the Brünig Pass) has some spectacular views.
Yes, 1 day will be enough. You can take train via Luzern and return via Bern. From Lauterbrunnen you can walk to Trummelbah or take a bus. I'd suggest also to take a cable car to Murren at the end of the valley.
Meiringen offers the cable car up to to the Alpin Tower (this is expensive). Vernicular railway up to the Reichbach Falls and then walk/monster trotti down.
Walk through the Areschlucht gorge and little train back into the town.
Bus up to the stunning Rosenlaui Valley.
Lots of hikes, cycle trails (bikes can be rented from the SBB station).
Good, cheap local hotels/B&B if you decide to stop over.
By train from Zurich via Luzern gives you stunning mountain views (visit Facebook - search Visit Meiringen - for photos.
If you come via Bern/Interlaken - stunning lake views.
Thanks everyone. All great tips! Have a sunny day tomorrow!
