Learning german in Lörrach or Weil am Rhein

Hi,

I am looking for B1 german class across the border from Basel since I understand that it is cheaper. Any tips on schools and other experiences are welcome.

Volkshochschule offer lessons, but only twice a year. Otherwise there are no places I can think of. Cost is around 200€

Bloody hell. It'd take 20 years before you finished.

I suggest finding a german student in Basel for private lessons. You may post an ad on https://markt.unibas.ch/ . Within a week you should get a couple of offers/contacts.

One minus is that in many cases those kids usually are staying in Basel only for semester.

I am also looking for a place just over the border that offers cheaper German courses. Here in Zurich the norm is about 800 CHF per month which I can't afford as I don't yet have a job. But in order to get a job I need to improve my German first.

Anyone else with suggestions?

Erm, no... The courses last a term, and advance by level (B1, B2...). There are some courses that are slower, but the VHS is cheap and cheerful. That was the initial question.

Another option is to enrol as a part-time student at a uni, tuition is cheap in Switzerland, but I don't think they do evening classes. Worth investigating though, especially in Zurich where you're not near a major German city...

The "Integration Kurse" are very slow, and not worth the time, but Weil am Rhein (and Lörrach) both offer intensive courses to move you up. Too late for this term, but you can contact them for the next term

I guess the lack of at the end of my post made you interpret it too literally!

Dunno but Slammer is very, very, veryveryvery bored at the moment, maybe if anybody has room we could get a group together, I may be able to get y'all at least a German starter going.

Could be interesting, a bunch of expats speaking bavarian Accented broken German.

Hey there, are you by chance interested to join an "online learn-German study group"? I would like to form one with members here in EF who are serious in learning the language. I would like to have a job too, like you. Perhaps we can improve our German by forming an online study group?

This Deutsch B2 Intensivkurs ( http://www.vhs-weil-am-rhein.de/Kurs..._50f82e9a89c46 ) - does anyone know how many lessons it includes?

The TLC in Baden http://www.tlcsprachschule.ch/1-1-Home.html will be somewhat mediocre option offered by large companies. You can go to intensive course but the truth is that onus is alwsys on you how fast you learn at the end of the day. You must activate your spoken German in daily life.

The one starting on Monday has 20 classes and the one starting on the Tuesday has 15 classes. Monday is mornings and Tuesday is evenings. What's curious is they don't say what other days are.

Thanks for posting that, because the last time I checked they hadn't updated their website and were still showing last years classes. Try clicking on Anmeldung and see if it gives more details, or you could simply call them - they teach English too, so there might be an English speaker there :-)

Hope that helps

Chris

Just noticed, it's offered Mondays and Thursdays :-)
