Hello everyone -- looking for advice/insight here: after living in Switzerland for 3 years I am relocating back home to the US - I have a bunch of furniture and a car to sell. I put the usual ads on ricardo.ch and several other sites, but not getting many bites at all -- Also tried with several charities (Salvation Army, Blue Cross, churches) but none of them wants to come pick up anything.
Can anyone suggest a more effective way to get rid of this stuff? I'm basically giving the furniture away -- it's the car i need to sell but even that i'm just marking a basic book value.
Would appreciate any insight from those who've been there done that!
Try www.hiob.ch to find their nearest depot. They take good quality stuff of all kinds: furniture, cooking stuff, clothing, books, etc. They’ll come and pick it up too.
gotta get your 10 posts (been a member since 2008 and only 5 so far, how did you manage in Switzerland without the forum?) and then put up ads here. You might want to update where you are located so people can know if it is worth their while to come to you and get it. USA is your current location...
I've seen many people not being able to sell their stuff because they try to recover too much of what they invested on it (i.e. they sell it too expensive to be used). As soon as they offer low prices or give things away people will react favorably.
There are some yahoo groups in Switzerland where you can post items for sale or give away.
Also, contact your local commune as usually have a division which looks after those needing social assistance and I am certain they would be grateful for donations.
Have you already tried the CSP ( centre social Protestant)? They have a shop near the station in Neuchatel and will come and collect furniture as long as it's in good condition if you give them a call.
Well you make a good point however it took me about 3 years to figure things out around here and not much contribution one can do as a newbie. That being said, with 3 years under my belt now, I plan on being more active on here to help out/share with anyone else trying the Swiss experience
Me, I'm headed back to the NYC area where I come from -- but I've sure learned a boatload out here in a short 3 years.
