Leaving Switzerland Deregistration Question

Hi Folks,

After seven years in Switzerland the time has come to move on. That being said, I have a question about de-registration and permit validity since I couldn't seem to find the appropriate answer on older posts.

My contract ends a month earlier than my current (B) permit which is valid until 25.12.2023 - I am leaving to take on a new job. That being said would I need to set my departure date at the Gemeinde for de-registration as the last day on the contract or would it be legally possible to leave Switzerland the following day? I am a non-EU national just to clarify and this is just a question regarding logistics on my end.

Thanks for any help that can be provided!

I can’t see leaving the day after being a problem, but only your gemeinde can tell you for sure.

Do nationals of your country normally need a visa to visit Switzerland? If not you likely can remain in Schengen for 90 days after your permit expires. Talk to your commune.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm checking with them.

We do need a visa though I think I read somewhere that there is some flexibility after the end of the work contract (30 days mentioned somewhere). I'm checking with the gemeinde as well to be sure.
