Unfortunately my marriage did not meet the three year minimum. I do not want to leave Switzerland, but after speaking to migration lawyers, it seems that it is inevitable.
I am under a lot of distress as I cannot do anything. I can’t force my husband to move back home and I can’t do anything but wait for a decision from migration. This has been ongoing for 2 months and my mental health is deteriorating. The only power I have is to make my own decision to leave and move on.
I have everything packed into three suitcases. Is there a trusted service I can use to ship them to an address in the US?
What other steps would I need to take in terms of making my tax payments, pension, de-register, exit visa, etc?
Don't give up until they kick you out.
If you are integrated and have a job, these are good cards in your hand and the authorities take this into account.
Get you employer to write a letter saying how well you work and how well you fit in.
What job/qualifications you actually got, maybe somebody here has some bright idea
I'm sorry that I don't really have much advice to give, but I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry you're going through this. And if you do move back to the US, I hope you will, in time, feel much happier there.
Stay strong... It will get better.
Hugs!
It’s really difficult to not give up. I’ve been told by multiple lawyers that it’s an impossible chance that I will be allowed to stay because three years of marriage is the law and the USA is not a country that is viewed as unsafe.
I am waiting on my A1 and A2 certificate- hopefully I passed both. I was also thinking of taking the KDE as my German is not bad, but not the greatest.
I have been employed for almost 2 years if I make it to September. My employer has written me a letter but my role and salary does not qualify for my company to apply for a work permit on my behalf.
I currently work in operations but I have a degree in social work from a US university so the fields don’t match...
I am mentally exhausted and just started seeing a therapist here.
Thank you, that is very kind of you
some people got permit from non eu countries even without 3 years of marriage the final decision is from canton or migration and not from lawyers 🤷🏾♂️
For sure, a therapist can help to hear you and to help you decide what is the best decision.
For your basic question about transporting personal items, it should be perfectly fine to transport them by normal swiss post - or it may be cheaper, if you are able, to go to Germany and post at the post office there....
The maximum size USPS will take is 30kg. Swiss Post will also take 30kg, so you can pack into regular moving boxes as long as everything is packed properly. It is possible to do an electronic declaration of the contents online....look on the swiss post website.
Best of luck finding a way forward....
Am sorry to hear you’re going through with this.
Regarding your belongings, you may find it cheaper to pay for extra bags on your flight home as opposed to shipping your belongings. We did this when we moved to CH: the cost of paying the airlines for extra bags was significantly cheaper than shipping them, and we had all our stuff when we arrived at the airport.
I suggest you weigh your suitcases (regular weight limit is 23kg, oversized limit is 32kg) then contact the airline you intend to fly with to ask about the cost of travelling with such bags.
