I am in the final stages of relocating from Zurich to London (and I also had to move a lot to the U.S.). I just wanted to let everyone know that the cheapest and quickest way I have found to move most of my things is through the Swiss Post. Large moving boxes cost 100 CHF or less to ship to either the US or the UK as long as they weigh less than 20kg (I believe this is the accurate weight).
For the more cumbersome and fragile items I used Team Allied and they were friendly, prompt, and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them.
I plan to use this for shipping some of my things. I will be discussing the details with my local post office, and if there's any other relevant info I'll add it.
Yeah, who knew Swiss Post had so much useful info online in English!! We've been investigating shipping companies for upcoming move and the rates are extraordinarily expensive. Need to do some measuring and calculating to figure out what combination of Post/Shipper options might work best. Thanks for links!!
Well I'm assuming that since the company name has "Swiss" in it, one may think It could NOT, be the cheapest. And "Swiss" is a Canton close to Wettingen, it's not Aargau, but a bit further out in the boonies.
Maybe you are playing stupid, but swiss is an adjective, as in Swiss chocolate, or Swiss Alp Resort, and there is no town called swiss. I was being sarcastic and obviously this was lost on the two of you, or maybe you meant Schwyz?
well at any rate, the question is quite generic. Something cheaper? that would depend by what criteria, and how much stuff you plan to ship. Moving is NOT cheap, and even small amounts of stuff are expensive if you aren't moving them yourself.
I am moving a full 3-bed apartment from Zurich to Dublin. I have been recommended to use Packimpex and this thread suggests Team Allied. Any comments (pos or neg) on Packimpex and any other suggestions for a moving company which is reasonable and won't break my things?
I used a British company when moving and in short were they the worst customer experience I ever had - including all Swiss restaurants and even the kiosk in Zürich's HB (the one with the two grumpy Yugoslawian ladies behind the counter). I could write pages on what all went wrong but to cut it short: it's the first time that I got so annoyed that I wrote some CEO I found on linkedin a lengthy email. Not because I think he'll answer or improve anything... but to get it off my chest.
So who ever you go for, avoid these guys at all costs:
Totally agree I have used Team Allied many times and have been very happy with them. They will be moving me via direct load Zurich - to UK soon with a UK crew......sorted!
I can also recommend their part loads which have very competitive rates!
