I thought this topic would be useful both for those new in Switzerland and, rather selfishly, for me. Any pitfalls, things to look out for, companies to recommend etc. gratefully received.
Yes.
Don’t user the same provider for legal insurance as for your other insurances because they will not act if you have a dispute over a claim against themselves.
Some legal insurances exclude say disputes with employers, neighbours, spouses etc.
What legal disputes are important to cover and what not?
Some legal insurances have a maximum number of claims per year. And some have a waiting period between the signature of the contract and your first claim.
The legal insurance companies usually also offer a telephone help line for legal questions. This can be useful but this is also their canary in the coal mine. Excessive use of this will alert the company to a potentially litigious (and hence expensive) customer and may lead to the abrupt termination of the policy.
