License plate data service

Hi guys

I'm working for a company, who wish to create search function in a webshop, that allows looking up Swiss license plates. Not for personal information, but to match the vehicle and find information about; dimensions, engine, etc.

Does any of you know where to find such a service/company?

Licence plates may be swapped from one car to another, which my make your life difficult.

Roger!

But - let's say XXX123 Mazda changes it's owner to someone with a Ford, then that information should change as well, or?

Also, there are often two vehicles (and sometimes as many as seven) using the same number plates.

In any case, the only information that is available to the public is name and address of the owner, and NOT any information regarding the vehicle(s).

Tom

Jesus... so what if there's a car accident, and you only got the license plate number from the other car - how will you know which of the seven was the one in the accident?

By looking at the car

By looking for the one that is bent

What difference does it make?

Anyway, seven is only for old-timers (30+ years), normally it's only two.

I have four sets of shared plates!

Tom

Why would a company in Denmark even care about Swiss plated cars?

Why would the physical location of a software engineer matter?

But you have only one set of plates. The bent ones will be on the non scratched car tomorrow.

Because they have no clue.

(And it is a nice exercise, even for others, how Swiss license plates work)

Holder/Keeper. Owner could be someone completely different.

And the information is only directly visible to the public if not blocked. Otherwise the information is only released with probable cause.

I suspect the OP is making the common mistake of thinking that a swiss licence plate belongs to the car itself (as it does in the UK for example), rather than the car's owner .

There are certainly online companies in the UK that allow you to check out a car and its details, engine size, current market value, etc. just by typing in the number plate.

I've used the same plate for 26 years on five different cars (two currently still using it).

Tom

Car's holder/keeper

Sorry.

Money of course, they want to make money from your data.

You mean we could have 7 like you for same pay cheque ?

The licence plate is also essentially linked to an insurance policy; the insurance companies should sort out all the details (or failing that, the police).

Just because it fits here:

1)

If you were involved in Switzerland in a car accident with a forign regstered car you can look up the local Swiss contact of the foreign insurance online:

http://www.nbi-ngf.ch/en/nvb/auskunf...denten-abfrage

If you do only have the license plate number you have to give them a call or see 3).

2)

If you are a driver from aboard and you are involved in a car accident with a Swiss plated car outside Switzerland, you can lookup the contact of the Swiss insurance in your own country online:

http://www.nbi-ngf.ch/en/nvb/auskunf...le/srb-abfrage

If you do only have the license plate number you have to give them a call.

3)

You may also similar services in other countries:

http://www.nbi-ngf.ch/en/nvb/auskunf...skunftsstellen

In some countries you can directly lookup the relevant insurance when you know the license plate. This service is provided as part of the International Motor Insurance Card a.k.a. Green Card.

you have services to look up owners in some Kantons based on plates

https://www.viacar.ch/eindex/login.aspx?kanton=SH

you have services to look up car details via Vin search

but not sure how you could match the two, only the relevant authorities could link the two numbers for you - number plate and vin number that appears on the grey card?
